I have a 6 " DIC which had been okay early on but lately performance has been sporatic. Works better in a dark room. Tried, but can't extend length of unit beyond packaging. Drop off in quality over the years. Little bang left. Just memories of the performance of the old unit.

Lately, no consumer reports on my unit and model

panasonic plasma is better than any lcd

Its actually in the eye of the beholders. I have plasma and lcd and actually like the LCD better but my wife likes the plasma. But if you have a bright room with windows plasma are bad with reflections on the screen in a bright room.

With your obsession for TVs and how fast they are coming out with better technology, I would be surprised if you keep the set for 3-4 years before upgrading. Seems like the extended wouldn't be worth it for you.

obsessed yes...rich no:mj07:

I keep things a long time..

52'' bought 4 years ago..
needed service this past summer.
they picked it up made repairs and had back 2 days later.no trouble since.

we also rotate those coming in and going out..

ie..from theater room..to bed room ..to office..

55'' will not make it to my office until I can afford a HUGE LED to go in the theater room.

I really want to upgrade my LCD/MONITOR.

32'' SEEMS SMALL NOW

old school is on target, I have that Samsung 52in, and just bought the 40in he has pictured above for my bedroom.
After seeing 42in plasma on sale at bjs for under 700, went to the store intending to buy Samsung plasma or Panasonic plasma, the Samsung lcd picture is so superior to plasma, it's not even a contest.
Get Samsung 1080lcd HD. plasma uses much more energy, you can't go wrong with Samsung LCD

FWIW I am a plasma fan. I've got a 50 inch Pioneer Kuro Plasma but unfortunately they stopped making them. It was the best plasma on the market...deepest black levels of any.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally can still see image blur/lag in LCDs even with the 120 hz. For sports with fast action it drives me crazy. Other people will say they don't really notice a thing. I do know that I get a ton of compliments on how great the picture is when we have people over.

I will be getting an LCD though for my next TV. If you get plasma it's best to break it in for 100 hours or so. Try not to view scaled pictures as you want to wear the pixels evenly.

Check out avsforum.com. I will warn you though it can be overwhelming.

Beware of buying a TV on how it looks in the store. Places like Best Buy jack the contrast and settings off the chart. If you used your TV on their settings it would burn out in a year.
