Would like to get a new TV, but don't really need it by Christmas. Was hoping to hold off until after the 1st of the year. I see some good deals right now. Will there be any good after-Christmas deals, or should I purchase now? Looking at 50 - 55 inch LCD's. Anyone work in retail electronics here that might have an idea? Thanks in advance.

I worked in the Electronics dept. at Target but that was coming out of HS days over 15 years ago.
My manager would always said that a certain tv was dropping in price because the model was discontinued which went to a serious price crash. Outside of that then you could not beat a holiday sale price.
Last year I kept eyeing a Samsung 50" 1080 tv for months as it bounced around between regular $1199 and on sale at $999. I wanted it but never pulled the trigger. A few months down the road and I found that the series was discontinued and Circuit City had it on sale for $799. and I jumped on it.
It may be best to find a couple you really like and just monitor the prices over a few months if you are not in a hurry.

Thanks Kegray. I am looking at Best Buy because I have some Reward Certificates from them that I have to use by March 1st or lose them ($300 worth). That's why I'm not in a real hurry, but need to do something in the next couple of months.

You can get a mitsubishi 60 inch rear projection $999 free shipping at circuit city. IHave had this tv for 3 years picture is aweswome sound not very good so you would want a surround sound with it. For the price this is a great deal on an excellent tv.I know friends with plasmas and lcd 52 inch sonys and they like mine way more than what they have.

Watch out closer to super bowl Some Stores hike the price. Ask if any are going out of model year. That's when there the cheapest.

Big Daddy, I went through this question two years ago, agonizing over what to do. Had several salespeople tell me that the holiday prices are the best, and not to expect prices to go much lower than these after the holiday. Don't know that it's true, but the holiday prices are hard to beat. We went ahead and got one pre-holiday, and have been happy we did.

Good luck.

Also Big Daddy you should not pay the asking price at Best Buy if it is during a non holiday time of the year.
If the tv is $1000 or more then the Best Buy manager wants to move it.
You can ask for the manager of the tv department and tell him you have rewards but don't say the amount and tell him you want to buy a particular tv and any half way decent manager will pull up that tv in the computer and find a lower sale price that it has been advertised for and give it to you for that price.
The line that always seems to work is telling him you want a specific one at Best Buy but you have seen similar tv's that have same specs cheaper elsewhere.
It is not really a haggle method but if the tv you want has been sold for cheaper than shelf price then he will match that price. Even if it is on sale it might have been on sale cheaper at some earlier point.

sound and proven approach.

never ever ever pay full price at big box stores..

and also for many other services including Directv,Fios from Verizon...auto parts stores[request perfered customer status]Home Depot..Lowes..

"He who don't ask don't get!"

now of course if one has more money than they do time that is a horse of a different color..but then again that wouldn't apply to any of us you stare at a computer monitor waiting for the next entry on a message board..:mj07:

What are your thoughts on a plasma over 60" I have a large living room with a big wall and distance and need something big looking at Samsung 63" or Panasonic 65"?? Problem with the bigger units is that there don't seem to be dealing as much:shrug:

i would say more important than saving a hundred or two is buying a name brand....

don`t buy some garbage because it`s a few hundred less...get a name you know offers consistent quality....

I suggest that you do some research by comparing the LCD TV ratings for various brands. The expert reviews would definitely help you getting informed about the products that you like. Just saying.
