I fly to Portland,Oregon today. I am not looking forward to the DOTFA at the airport, if I have time to give a SITREP on the CHARLIE FOXTROT the donkeys at TSA pull off, I will report in.

If I can still read a book and use my Ipod, I am okay with whatever BS they plan on doing. The thing that is frustrating to me is that all of their countermeasures are tied to past incidents. There really is no forward thinking. I have been wondering when someone would try to start a fire on a plane, because that seems like the easiest way to fuck up a plane without appearing like you are going to be up to no good on your way through security. You can probably pick up matches anywhere past the security check point along with somethng flammable (other than simple paper). For that matter, you could soak a book in gasoline and let it dry out before taking it through security, pick up some matches at Chili's Too and create a little trouble on board.

I read a book recently about why profiling isn't as effective as it is credited. However, I think we should be putting the majority of our focus on the type of person(s) that is starting the trouble (hello arabs and african nationals). The theory states that Al-Queda will just look for another type of person outside the profile....but, doesn't that open up opportunities to root these fuckers out? When they start recruiting, they are bound to run into someone willing to rat on them.

I guess I just get peeved when I see a 75yr old white woman getting the random selection frisk job while Mohammed slides through the inspection process without issue. It is time to start hiring some really smart people to look at this issue (social economists, psychologists, military strategists, etc)...maybe even an outside security company because what we're doing now is not working.

It is impossible to keep some from slipping through the cracks--our greatest tool to date is knowing with 99% certainty the ethnicity of the enemy--to not exploit it is insane.
