Texas QB Colt McCoy was diagnosed with a mere pinched nerve following Thursday night's BCS title game loss.

He'll be recovered "within days." McCoy, injured on the Longhorns' second possession, returned to the sideline during the game with his shoulder pads on but never reentered. The fifth-year senior's toughness is being questioned, and his 2010 draft stock was already dropping after a miserable SEC Championship game effort. McCoy isn't a first-round prospect.

Wow, I'd say you'd have to question his toughness.... I think most of us thought this was a major injury - otherwise he'd attempt to return.

Wow.

It's especially surprising since he is not even viewed as a 1st round prospect... sure he has NFL hopes, but it's not like he was gonna be a high draft pick anyway....

Oh well, a loss is a loss. I did have concerns (believe it or not) going in about McCoy - that he'd be brittle and get hurt - even though he hasn't missed time this year.

Call it a hunch - but I bet Texas anyway......

Oh well - I'll get 'em this weekend!

It sure seems like it was a bitch-move on his part, but the coach is the boss, and if he said no, then he can't override that. Would be interesting to know what took place on the sidelines and in the locker room. I'm sure some stories will leak out soon enough on what really happened and if Colt made a fuss to go back in.

I'm guessing you've never had a pinched nerve. It wasn't the pain that got him, it was the fact he couldn't throw the ball to his father that was only 7 yards away.

Do me a favor. Have somebody jar your shoulder violently so that you pinch a nerve. Then try and throw a football with a numb/weak arm. Shoot, try and throw a golf ball. Good luck.

This wasn't a question of toughness. You arm literally feels like dead weight, like it "fell asleep". Can't shoot it up, can't take pain killers, can't do anything with it except try and massage it out.

So Colt gripped the ball, stared at his dad and thought, ?It?s just a simple throw.? He threw. The ball went soft and wide. Everyone grimaced. ?Give it to me again,? Colt demanded. Brad got the ball and gave it back to his son. The next throw was the same, bouncing harmlessly away. ?Give it to me again,? Colt said, again. Brad did.

It was the same. It was over. Colt couldn?t throw it 7 yards to his own father. ?My arm was dead,? he said. The dad hugged his son. The son broke down and cried.

?There?s no pain on my body,? Colt said later. ?If I was a free safety, I?d go out there and make a tackle. I [just] have no strength to throw a football.?

I'm sure his father had some input and he was with him when he was getting x-rays.
I'm pretty sure he reminded him of the future and the nfl.

Ludicrous to insinuate the NFL draft had anything to do with this. He had no ability to throw the ball.

Looks like many people are down on him but I think this kid is going to be a good QB in the nfl, I have that feeling about him.
I like his physical attributes and his strong upside.

I would take him on my team any day, he is the 3rd qb to be taken in the draft, and that is a steal. I would take him over Tebow, that for should:shrug:

starter in the NFL for 12-15 years down the road, going to be a good pro and he is tough as nails, pinched nerve hurts like a mofo

McCoy does not have the arm strength to be a Round 1 or even Round 2 QB.
People are saying he will stay away from the combine because of it and that will not help his draft stauts.

Clearly Clausen and Bradford will go ahead of him.
NFL scouts seem to think Tony Pike will move up boards quickly and could go before McCoy.
Some people think Snead will go ahead of McCoy as well.
I think that is a joke.
The other qb's in the draft all have the same issues as McCoy:Arm strength.

LeFevour,Hiller, and Snead are the qb's to follow McCoy in the draft and none are known for having NFL arms.

I really like Lefevour and hope the Browns get him in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, he reminds me alot of Brent Farve when he was at Southern Miss. Pike is too SLOW in my opinon to go high in the draft, although his 40 time is decent, but with NFL QBs its more about quickly accelerating side to side. I think Claussen will be a good NFL starter, but I am not real sold on Bradford, McCoy, as well as Tebow, as they may be system QB's. Couple of guys that I think will rise up before the draft are Hiller as WMU, Develin at Delaware and Perrilloux at Jacksonville State.
