Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy played the national championship game with a hairline crack in at least one rib.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Friday that the injury was ?a little bit of a nuisance? to McElroy at times. But he said the quarterback never came close to having to leave the Tide?s 37-21 victory over Texas on Thursday night.

Saban said the injury didn?t show up on X-rays but was spotted during a bone scan. He said didn?t say exactly when McElroy was injured, only that the quarterback had the problem ?for quite awhile.?

McElroy told ESPN.com after the game he hurt two ribs during the third quarter of the SEC championship game. He said he got it numbed before the national title game.

Under a mask.
I think even with Boise still undefeated we have a clear cut national champion.Even if McCoy played Bama with there strength of there D alone would of come out on top.

Finally we have a clear cut champion.JMHO!

Not to mention Ingram with a banged up hamstring and cramping late in the game. Injuries happen, get tougher and/or don't have your prized QB running an option play to the left side exposing his throwing arm.

Yeah and McElroy played real well.
You could have more than he did in that game.

And comparing a hairline cracked rib from 4 weeks ago to a pinched nerve in game is just silly.

I had a hairline fracture in my foot from a soccer game and was out playing again 3 weeks later. I guess I am tougher than McElroy.

Agree 100% Paul. Yours is the first post I've seen mention the fact that McCoy ran into the line of scrimmage and exposed his throwing arm. Give credit where it is due... the Alabama defense made the stops when necessary. How about Texas giving up two 100+ yard rushers? Ingram gets 116 yards and missed about a quarter of action.

If you lost money, I'm sorry. If you are a fan and are just upset that McCoy didn't get to play, I am sorry as well. I would have enjoyed seeing him play the entire game and hate to see his college career end after 5 plays in the National Championship. But I am not going to apologize for the system we have and for Alabama winning the National Championship. They went out and played a damn tough schedule and won every game. Seems like the Tide is getting thrown under the bus because of the BCS system or the fact that McCoy didn't play. It was the Alabama defense that knocked him out of the game. He didn't have some freak injury. It was caused by a defensive play during the game. I wouldn't be on here crying if Ingram got knocked out of the game. I sure didn't moan when he only got 30 yards against Auburn. We made the plays necessary to win that game as well as against Texas.

It?s not our fault Texas didn?t prepare its backup quarterback, have more of a running game, or put all its eggs in the Colt McCoy basket. It?s up to the Texas coaching staff to have the backups prepared and have the rest of the team be ready to pick up the slack if the unthinkable happens. You can't deny Alabama it's greatness this season. There wasn?t a better or more complete team in the country in 2009

I'm sick and tired of reading the anti Alabama posts on here and listening to the drivel on talk radio. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I'm tired of 'Bama being thrown under the bus.

I'm done with my soap box. :director:
