Kansas City area for who knows how long....
Harrah?s sportsbook tried to take back, and not honor, some sportsbets after the betting tickets got written and given to the customer.

Considering it's Harrah?s, many Las Vegas sportsbettors not surprised they tried to pull such a stunt. Harrah?s is now proposing to settle the complaint, fine and investigation by paying the state Gaming Control Board a $100,000 settlement.

The sportsbettor was the former "Las Vegas Sun" sports-betting columnist Jeff Haney. Haney reported that book's supervisor voided the bets on the grounds that he "didn't like the lines" into which Haney bet.

story in yesterday's Sun:

Harrah?s looks to settle sports book complaint for $100,000

By Richard N. Velotta

Representatives of Harrah?s Entertainment Inc. have signed an agreement with the state Gaming Control Board settling a complaint involving the rescission of three sports wagers in violation of state gaming regulations.

According to a stipulation for settlement signed by Harrah?s President Tom Jenkin, the company will pay the board $100,000, which includes a $75,000 fine and $25,000 to reimburse investigation costs.

Approval of the settlement is expected to be considered by the Nevada Gaming Commission later this month.

According to the complaint posted today by the Attorney General?s office on behalf of the Control Board, sports book personnel at the company?s Harrah's property on the Strip took back three $550 wagers written for an unidentified patron.

The complaint said that on April 12, 2008, the patron attempted to place three bets on professional basketball overnight lines. The patron presented a Harrah?s player?s club card and a winning sports book ticket from an unrelated sporting event plus $600 to a sports book writer to place the three bets.

The sports book writer generated three $550 sports wager tickets and gave them to the patron for him to review. But almost immediately, a sports book supervisor retrieved all three tickets and left the betting window to check the patron?s player rating history.

After reviewing the patron?s rating records, the supervisor informed the patron that the sports book would not accept the three wagers that had just been placed.

The Control Board said the action violated Nevada gaming regulations that say a wager cannot be unilaterally rescinded without written approval from the board?s chairman.

The complaint also said that in the investigation of the matter, it was determined that the sports book supervisor erroneously believed that it was Harrah?s policy to only allow patrons with certain high player rating levels to place wagers on overnight lines. Limiting access of the public to certain gaming activities except in specific areas outlined in legislation is a violation of gaming regulations.

In addition to agreeing to pay the fine, Harrah?s provided additional training to sports book supervisors and staff affirming the policy on acceptance of bets, subject to minimum and maximum betting limits. In addition, Harrah?s has overnight line scratch sheets available to patrons in its sports books and, when possible, posting that information on electronic screens in the book area.

It's amazing how many lawsuits and gaming violations this casino has. I've read similar articles regarding unrelated events to Harrah's being sued/fined before.

The way I read it, he made a complaint to the Gaming Commission, not a lawsuit. The settlement is all to go to the Commission. I'm assuming he got his bet money back directly at the time they rescinded them.

From what I can gather from the artilcle, the sportwriter placed the wagers for someone else who was right there with him.

Which I assume (probably incorrectly) that this anonymous person was not allowed to placed wagers at Harrah's - maybe he was a sharp? So he got the sportswriter to place the wager for him. The Sportsbook supervisor saw this, and decided he didn't like it, and took matters into his own hands. End result, he stepped all over his d*ck.

I don't know how you read that into any of this.

Nevermind. Misread a few spots with sportswriters and sportbook supervisor and unidentified patron.

Edited to add:

This line is what I made the mistake with -

Since we have had some different opinions in the political forum and let me say that that is o-k because we clearly see the political world differently and that is fine with me , so let me be the first to say that what you have read into this about another person placing the bets through another person... This claim might possibly be true.... I have not read any story and don't know the facts but I do know the sportsbook joints very well .I've bet every joint in Vegas and know all to well about the PRICKS that run the sports books in vegas , see I was a runner for an outfit serveral years ago and found out that they love to tell a player what you can and mostly what you can't do , they are scared to death that a player might bet the number before it moves and I did this at Harrahs on the strip ,'serveral times' , the only place in vegas that banned me from making a wager and I swear that I was 10,000 loser to the joint , I was put on a dime limit and the day before I got the boot I had made 3 dime bets and win only one so I was given two games to bet the next day , the day I got banned. I go in and the manager comes a running and informs me that they no longer wanted my business, he said to me that you can cash a ticket but that was it , no more bets from me . WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ABOUT !!They had been keeping a chart on me and my bets . First let me say that if you walk in off the street with no Harrahs card , no I D , you can only bet a certain limit. Then if you bet and the number moves on the game that you wagered on then you are charted and they watch you and they will follow you around inside and outside and see if you are with others or if you use your phone . SCARED TO DEATH. Harrahs was the worst back then , it has been 10 years since those days.I was put on a limit at every joint , the mighty Mirage put me on a 500.00 limit, even Arizona Charlies would let me bet 2,000 then later put me on a dime , Horse Shoe down town let me bet 15 hundred and I was the biggest bettor there off the street and the RIO let me bet 15 hundred , that was the limit if they don't know you and you don't give up an I.D. they are some nitty places in vegas , I will say that CEASARS, BELLAGIO and a few other places would take 5 dimes , but after a few trips they moved it to 3 dimes, oh well , those where the days !!! Now this was BASKETBALL , you can bet higher on football but I was only betting baskets !
