Anyone have receeding gum lines???

Any dentists here? Wanted some info on someone who has it or has had surgery to fix it. Or any info for that matter. Thanks!

another one for saint....generic question....i just had a root canal...and i needed a crown afterward....

procelain...it was expensive...i went back to have the temp removed and the permanent put in...

apparently it wasn`t "tooled" correctly and didn`t "seat"....the dentist had to have the crown redone...


does the dentist eat the cost of the first,non-usable crown?....i couldn`t get a straight answer out of my guy...i`m not being charged...but,i was curious as to what the protocol was....i`m guessing,no...who knows whether the problem came in the making of the mold or processing the crown...

I have a few areas in my mouth where the gums are receeding pretty bad. Not sure of the correct terminology, but the third tooth in on the top...both sides. Those are the worst. Also, the lower front two teeth are getting worse. Hasn't bothered me much, but recently becoming a bit more tender and I can tell the gum is getting higher on the tooth. Honestly, I haven't been the most disciplined on seeing a dentist regularly. I know I should. Not sure exactly of the cause. Hereditary maybe? My gums have always had a little receeding since I was younger. I could lighten up on the brushing also as I brush too hard sometimes.

Is it true that they can take other parts of the gumline and fill in the receeding areas?? How costly is something like that?

I haven't seen anyone yet.

It depends on who made the error but if he has a good relationship with the lab they should remake it at no charge. If he got a good impression the 1st time and it won't seat it's an issue with fabrication. Unfortunately it happens but it's good to get it right rather than cement something that isn't fitting properly.

Hard to say without seeing you obviously. Smokers tend to get more recession. The teeth you described (canines) typically aren't the 1st to get recession and if they do one of the first questions is about brushing too hard. Especially if it's worse on the left (for a righty). Since you said you brush aggressively this could be contributing so get a soft brush and ease up!

Grafting is possible, it's probably expensive (specialist). They get the tissue from the palate usually and it's painful as hell from what I hear. Esthetic results vary but it will never look as good as it originally did. Would be worth letting someone take a look though-

Thanks Saint! I don't smoke, but I do know the brushing has a lot to do with it. I've known that and have been using a soft brush for quite some time. I do try and ease up on the aggresiveness also. I'm not a psycho teeth brusher or anything, but I could go softer. At night is when I usually ease up, but the morning is tough as I work VERY early and am half sleeping when I'm brushing, so I suppose I rush too much. You are right though...I'm a righty and the left canine is a bit worse.
