did ekg this morning, good to go, blood pressure 128/80, doc wants me on south beach diet, so I can get off b/p medicine after weight loss, anyone had any success with this diet? what is a good starting point? I tried it a few years ago and it worked for awhile, but like always, I cheat and there goes the diet. exercise and weight loss is the key for me with a family history of heart disease. thanks guys...

My mom did the south beach thing and dropped 40 lbs pretty quickly. She enjoyed the food so it was pretty easy on her.

Still its like anything else, you have to want it to succeed and dedicate yourself or you won't get it done. if you don't really want to do it from the get go, don't bother because you won't stick with it.

If your family has a history of heart disease and you're already big enough you're on bp meds then why not just change your life and eat healthy. Forget the diets. Just eat healthy and below your maintance calories per day and throw in some cardio.

You're either going to care enough to change your lifestyle or you're not change it but no diet is going to make that happen, just you. Even if you do the South Beach and lose the weight, you're still going to have to change your eating habits after you get off the South Beach Diet. Why not just eat healthy from the start and lose weight that way?

I have been the same weight for 15 years, within 10 lbs at least. I am going to read sb book tonight and come up with a plan I can live with. first thing is to lose weight though, I have been on meds since I was 27 years old, I am 34 now, its time for change
