Buddy was doing tile work over the weekend and was explaining what he did...

He said "As I was laying the tile..." and a guy stopped him and said "you don't lay tile, you place tile'

So, is there a difference between 'laying tile' and 'placing tile'? If so, what is it and is it such a touching thing that it is worth correcting someone?

You lay concrete, you lay carpet. Placing tile is the correct terminology here. However----99% of everyone says "lay tile". It's just commonly accepted everywhere. It's just like most persons call stucco, plaster, when it isn't.
