HORSE RACING

By RICHARD ENG
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Nicole H - Suspect will be some value shipping back from losing in NoCal; her race two back was a good one in defeat.

Vision in Gold - Tepid chalk figures to improve in second start for Ron Ellis; expensive baby should handle the stretch out.

Long Shot - Maria's Dane

Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $56,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Great Siege - With key starters returning from long layoffs, recent action is a plus; capable of winning a stakes.

Prince Rexy - Part of an uncoupled Neil Drysdale entry; third start off a 16-month hiatus is a positive form cycle.

Long Shot - Stalingrad

Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Stormy Linda - FTS from the Brian Koriner barn; he can definitely win with baby sprinters, he puts early speed into them.

Done - Tepid favorite from the hot Bob Baffert barn; he bred this filly himself to the good sire Tiznow.

Long Shot - Drizella

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Dash Dot Dash - Like the parking lot post down the hillside turf course; subtle class drop can only help the cause.

Royal Taat - Class relief from stakes to a $40k price tag; has won twice down the hill, much easier task tonight.

Long Shot - Foundation Room

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Saltendipity - Two seconds in strong efforts; beaten favorite has tactical speed to sit a trip or lead throughout.

Racy Rosa - Ran well for a $50k price tag in debut; not much difference between Cal-bred MSW to the claiming price.

Long Shot - Classy Eva

Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $48,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds

Raging Wit - Garrett Gomez had options and rides here for Bill Mott; class relief should be a major factor.

Line of David - Favorite just graduated last time out; those are the kind of chalks I look to upset every time.

Long Shot - Majestic Afleet

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds

Domonation - Confidence builder after losing 3 stakes in a row; colt like this can show in the Preakness, not the Derby.

Quiet Invader - Could not keep pace in a fast-run San Vicente; won't face any like Sidney's Candy in this field.

Long Shot - Lions Story

Race 8 - 5 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Our Bellini Bikini - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this bottom class; Rafael Bejarno for the money shot.

Unusual Fantasy - For Joel Rosario to leg up, leap of faith in the decision; need not be much to compete here.

Long Shot - Harmony's Hope

Best Bet - Domonation (race 7)

Santa Anita Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/1/$5.40; Long Shots, 8/3/$24.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 803/201/$1,343.60; Long Shots, 399/64/$652.20; Best Bets, 49/17/$79.20

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #1 Toocleverforwords (7/2) in race 8 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Wednesday, Jazzy Moves ran second at Aqueduct paying $2.30 to place and $2.10 to show. Stats - 49/36/$261.20
