its not that uncommon.if you dont foul...you may not get a shot even to tie

you have minimum 5 seconds, and if u happen to foul, it is a 1 and 1 with the possibility of a poor ft shooter or a turnover.

but you dont have 5 seconds guaranteed. think about it....if the shot is launched with 1 sec on the shot clock, 6 sec on the game clock.....there's no way you have the ball in your hands with 5 sec left. best case you have it with 4.....and that means you rebound the ball cleanly and get a timeout granted instantly.
