Something just so wrong about this:

The Associated Press
BALTIMORE - The father of a Marine killed in Iraq and whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters from Kansas was ordered to pay the protesters' appeal costs, his lawyers said Monday.

On Friday, Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ordered Snyder to pay $16,510 to Fred Phelps. Phelps is the leader of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church, which conducted protests at Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder's funeral in 2006.

The two-page decision supplied by attorneys for Albert Snyder of York, Pa., offered no details on how the court came to its decision.

Attorneys also said Snyder is struggling to come up with fees associated with filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court.

The decision adds "insult to injury," said Sean Summers, one of Snyder's lawyers.

The high court agreed to consider whether the protesters' message is protected by the First Amendment or limited by the competing privacy and religious rights of the mourners.

This coming from the guy who justified the 'Cardinals', or whatever the fuck, turning a blind eye to systemic cornholing of altar boys by Catholic clergy in Boston because there was 'a shortage of priests.'

Priceless.

This is a terrible thing for any servicemember's family to have to endure but, sadly, the Snyder family went up against the attention whores. The so-called church has nothing better to do than to picket and protest and work the legal system.

The Snyder family has won this case in two lower courts with awards of 5-10 million dollars. The Phelps cult is comprised of many attorneys who thrive on attention and live to test the First Amendment and they successfully appealed the case in September 2009.

The Supreme Court of the US is scheduled to hear this case in October and, hopefully, will be able to put a final leash and muzzle on Mr. Phelps and his misguided followers.

I wonder if the ACLU comes to the aid of anti-gay protesters and such.

Just remember: if you find yourself agreeing with some left/right-wing nutties, you're standing on dangerous ground.

normally, you`d be right on dawgie and the aclu would swoop in to protect these cretins...unfortunately,the assholes in the family who aren't active protestors are lawyers.....their hope is to provoke someone into an assault, get some media attention and then they file a civil lawsuit and sue the shite out of the person. ...it`s one of the methods of funding their "efforts".
....

there is a biker group called "the freedom riders"(i believe) that try and make it to the military funerals that these cockroaches attempt to sully and block their access....

i say god bless them bikers......

edit...patriot guard riders...

I am very surprised that some of these Westboro Baptist Church members haven't been assassinated yet.

I mean - in all seriousness - very surprised.

Agreed. The fact that they drag their children into this type of protests is the real crime.

Imagine the lack of joy in your life, if the majority of your time is spent holding a sign that says "God Hates _____"

It's disgusting that families cannot bury their loved ones in peace.

O'Reilly Pays Legal Bill for Fallen Marine's Father

O'Reilly Pays Legal Bill for Fallen Marine's Father

Personally I think Bill O'Reilly is a pompous dick but he has done something right.

O'Reilly Pays Legal Bill for Fallen Marine's Father

No. 1 cable news host Bill O'Reilly said Tuesday that he will personally write a check to cover $16,500 in legal costs for the father of a fallen U.S. Marine who sued the members of a church who picketed his son's funeral.

On Tuesday's The O'Reilly Factor, however, the host stepped forward.

"That is an outrage," he said. "I will pay Mr. Snyder's obligation. I am not going to let this injustice stand."

O'Reilly added, "It's obvious they were disturbing the peace by disrupting the funeral. They should have been arrested, but our system is so screwed up, so screwed up, that loons are allowed to run wild. Snyder is fighting the good fight, and he is taking his case to the Supreme Court as he should. We are behind him 100 percent."

Snyder's attorney, Sean Summers, says people can contribute to a legal fund established at MatthewSnyder.org. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Snyder's appeal during its October term, with a verdict likely to be announced in mid-2011.

And Fred Phelps is the biggest p.o.s on this planet.

There is no doubt that he has played with some little boys in his lifetime.
