Ranked Best to Worst

Sinbad - A wise businessman. He asked a price for his services of which he completed upon payment.

Slug- Compassion goes a long way in my book as well as following through with his promise to take care of Greg.

Gregory - This guy has a couple issues and is not to be trusted. Also he is a terrible listener. Surely Abigail asked him to come over at least 5 times before she decided to take actions into her own hands and come over to his bachelor pad. Women hate bachelor pads... we're missing something here...

Abigail - she's crazy, quick to use the sex card, and obviously bipolar. She's second worse.

Ivan - obviously a pot head and lazy. This chick is giving out pu$$y like it's government cheese and he's still too lazy to get in the mix. Waste of life gets the nod at worst person ever.

Thank's guys for taking part....I predicted almost everyone's rankings. You guys are no different then then 100 freshman we do this too.And Glen made a point about " from a females perspective". It doesn't make a difference.Abigail is No 1 in most rankings maybe No 2 in a few.Gregory always gets off easy and is ranked the least offensive....I did the same thing most of you all did in the rankings.Until our school nurse Ann who was in charge of these peer weekends shed some light on me.She is retired after 35 yrs as our school nurse..mother theresa, educator, cheerleading coach and a saint because she volunteered her entire life helping children. One of her biggest gripes in life was how Abigail was ranked.Over the years she convinced me to change my ranking...
Most offensive..
Gregory.....
the others Sinbad,Ivan and Slug are inter -changable.
the least at the bottom is
Abigail....
why Abigail....she did it for Love...as bad as that act was..sleeping with a low life..she set lesser values of sex for a greater one..love..I'm sure she was immature ,naive, stupid and then turns hate into enjoyment.she is getting her revenge by laughing...she loses a lot of points because of that but not enough to rank her No 1... one year Ann took out the laughing part at the end to see if Abigail's rankings might improve..they did but by just a few.The question I thought of was ....her being the most offensive ..was it due to the sex with Sinbad or the last lines of the exercise".. as the sun set on the horizon,we hear Abigail laughing at Gregory". That is the last thing we readers hear and its on our minds.

Now Greg gets the E-zee pass.He rejects her.Abigail did the most horrendous thing in her life...had sex with someone else so she could be with you....Greg,get over it.You rejected her...that shows how important she was to you.If you loved her the way she loved you....maybe it doesn't matter as much...couldn't you assure her in someway it was wrong but I love you and realize why you did it.It's going to be hard to forgive and forget but Love dominates if its true love.
One of the questions we have to ask is " does our view of love in our society excuse these types of behaviors".
When we do this exercise with the students they are in groups...so much more is added..about stereotypes, character, values, violence, prejudice, types of behaviors...Ann always makes sure the message about Abigail is that she is wrong too. They all are offensive esp. Abigail....but not No.1....
There are no right or wrong...I changed my rankings over the years...not sure if any of you would change yours seeing my take...and I understand why most of us had Abigail on top...and gregory gets a free ride...everyone can make a good point about there guy being No 1..."our choices are based upon what we choose to believe behind actions.
Ivan...choose not to do anything..
Slug..choose violence
Sinbad..he could of helped but had a price
I always thought that Abigail always was no 1 because of her laughing at the end.But if you take that out of the story she is still no 1...
Thanks for taking part...like I said from the beginning..there are right or wrong.....was wondering if anyone might look at their rankings and change them...i did over the years...thanks again...

?I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you.

Alligator river story part 2

as the above is going on they get torrential rain and side where gregory lives where all are congregated is about to flood.

Sinbad's boat will only carry himself and one other person at a time. He needs to get Gregory-Slug and Abigail to other side--but knows he can never leave Greg and Slug by themselves for fear Slug will harm Greg--and can't leave Greg with Abby for fear he will do same to Abby.

So how does he get all 3 to other side with no fear of harm coming to anyone?

Bring slug, return with Greg. Then bring Abbey, leave her with her buddy, Slug. Then bring Ivan. Lastly, bring Greg and live happily ever after.

Part 3:

Who is Abbey's baby's daddy? Sinbad from earlier in the story, Slug from their time spenty alone on the Island, or Gregory?

Box,

To answer your question, I initially had Abigail as #3 but changed it to #1 after I reread the end and saw that she was laughing at Gregory getting beaten. That's the part of my post where I say I "cheated" and edited the post.

And when I talked about a 'female perspective' I said they might view Gregory less favorably, but I also just kind of assumed that if they did that they would then naturally rate Abigail more favorably. I think a lot of women would look at Abigail with more compassion than most men would.

I still think the reason Abigail was ranked #1 is because there were a bunch of guys that took the survey. If you had mostly women take this survey I'm sure there would be a good deal that didn't have Abigail first.

At any rate, it's very interesting to see how people think!

The naivete in this forum is remarkable. The above is a typical public-school exercise in the demoralization of the young. If you want your kids to be immoral and illiterate, send them to public schools today.

If he took slug 1st that would leave abby with greg-- wouldn't work.

answer -
-he takes greg to other side leaving abby with slugg. drops him off returns alone-
-picks up slug takes him across drops him off and brings greg back and drops him off and picks up abby and takes her across-
--returns and takes gregg back across again.

he never takes more than one and never leaves slug and greg or greg and abby alone.

got here too late but my written answers prior to reading the thread were"

worst
ABIGAIL she is a user, and a loser, the compromise of her purity for the fare tells me no character, morals or integrity.

SINBAD ready to further his own agenda by sacrificing the integrity of others, there is a job for him at Goldman Sachs.

IVAN allowed bad things to happen albeit unknown, because of his lack of effort to do good.

SLUG, his was blindsided with the lack of knowledge of Greg's reason for rejection, performed what he thought was an act of chivalry to even the score with Greg, thus defending he undeserved honor of what he thought was a lady, but actually a women willing to compromise her honor and virginity to gain what she wanted.

Least
Gregory I put him last because he did not compromise his high expectations of what traits his bride, the vessel of his offspring must have. He was beaten wrongly for his integrity and un- waiving standards. I am not convinced he loved her to begin with, based on the info provided.

AND YES BOX, this is a little too raw for High school freshman in my opinion, I was raised old school and the depth of this and the sexual overtones are better served for a more mature level than 13 or 14 year olds, and yes I did have a couple of classmates that were 13 as incoming freshman. Still enjoy your handicapping however;)

Gino..Alligator story is almost a PG version. The day after I posted this I was in an English classroom and King Lear was being broken down on the blackboard....it then had so and so had sex with Lears cousin. Not to good with King Lear but Othello had more sex and cheating then Alligator River.Of course Hawthorne's " Scarlet letter" with Hester Prynes is also a freshman or sophomore read.Madam Bovary,Anna Karenenia and many more. The No 1 book for most freshman in the country is Laurie Andersons " Speak".Its about a girl in school that gets raped. For the 1st time this year we had a parent that did not want her child to read it...so we gave her an alternative book...there was more to it but we allowed it...
Golden taint....not sure about your public education comment..we didn't do Alligator River in school...and I went to a catholic high school....and if I recall we did F.Scott Fitzimmons and many of the above novels or classics.

box it is Geno not Gino, a nickname for Gene, and I am not Italian :nono:

Being an educator I expected you to get it right:shrug:

King Lear means nothing to me, not a college grad, and a product of rural Ohio schools of the 60's so none of those titles are good with me, I am a non fiction reader, no time for that stuff! I am into reading, own a Kindle and read a lot on it currently reading The Long Snapper, a true story about Brian Kinchen, the long snapper for the Patriots headed to the Super Bowl.

JUST because it is in the public schools, does not make it right, I have never read the Scarlet Letter, my Dad is 94, I am 56 so as OLD school as they come these days. Not sure how I got a degree with the lack of all those classics and novels.

Golden Taint makes a very valid point I believe.

Nuff said, I think you understand my point of view.

That's probably because Catholic schools teach traditional morals, and ARS promotes the opposite - situational ethics.
