I am watching Bob Costas interview Bob Feller on the MLB Network & Feller told Costas that his fastball was once timed at 107 mph....that's crazy !!

I read that some old timers thought that Bob Feller was the best righthanded pitcher ever & now I can see why if his fastball was clocked at 107 mph.

Btw, Feller thinks that Walter Johnson & Grover Cleveland Alexander were the 2 greatest pitchers ever.

I just did some research on Feller & see that he threw 12 one hitters & 3 no hitters.

According to Wikpedia, Feller threw the second fastest pitch ever officially recorded, at 107.6 mph, in a game in 1946 at Griffith Stadium.

It seems that his guy was an animal.

In 1986 I was once eating breakfast in a diner in Cooperstown & saw an old guy in the distance feeding the birds & as I started focusing in on the old man, I realized that it was Feller. I ran out of the diner to talk to him & this guy couldn't be more pleasant. As I shook his hand I noticed that his fingers were bent in different directions. Since Doc Gooden was the hot pitcher at the moment, I asked Feller what he thought of Doc....He said basically to let's see where Gooden is in a couple of years. Our conversation must have lasted a good 20 minutes & at no time did Feller seem to want to be anywhere else than talking to me....I thought that he was very classy for taking the time to talk to me & have not forgotten that meeting.

As great as his numbers were, think of what they could have been had he not gone off to war while in his prime.

In the MLB converstion, Costas asked Feller about this (lost 4 years) & Feller just said that he doesn't ever regret missing those years. He thought it was more important defending his country than playing baseball.

Feller is 90 years old & he still throws a ball around. Very impressive man.
