YTD Record: 68-52 for +31.50 units
Last few weeks have been bouncing around in the 30?s unit wise. Last weekend of the regular season and I typically don?t play too many games during the conference tournaments, so looking to make it a very positive weekend.
UVa +105 (@ Miami) for 2 units ? was going to jump all over the #1 Virginia team until I saw they mixed up their regular starting pitchers. Frosh Brandon Kline gets the start for them and has spent time as a midweek starter and reliever. He has been reliable though posting a 3.00 ERA; 1.09 WHIP; .223 OBA and 38 K?s in 45 IP (5 starts & 11 relief appearances). With so many returning arms for UVa, it seemed tough for where Kline was going to get to pitch, but he?s made his way into the mix. He?s talented though (6th round pick in last years draft) and has shown he can compete. Miami goes with struggling Senior Jason Santana. Santana has posted a 5.86 ERA; 1.48 WHIP; .278 OBA and 62 K?s in 66 IP and has simply got hit hard the last couple of games.
Arkansas +110 (@ Vandy) for 2 units ? I?ve been on Arkansas a handful of times the last couple of weeks and it has got me a loss each time I believe. Guess I?m stubborn, but I truly feel this is a good spot for a team that has lost 4 straight and 3 of their last 4 weekend series. Offensively, defensively and pen wise the two teams are pretty even. Decent edge in starters to Arkansas as they start Soph Drew Smyly. Smyly has somewhat quietly put up one of the better seasons in the SEC as he has a 2.40 ERA; 1.14 WHIP and 86 K?s in 78 2/3 IP. He goes against Soph Sonny Gray of Vandy. Gray has a 3.45 ERA; 1.33 WHIP and 83 K?s in 78 1/3 IP. As noted by those #?s, Gray has pitched well, but has had some control issues recently as he has walked 28 in 50 2/3 IP of conference play.
Ole Miss -125 (vs. Auburn) for 5 units ? Auburn has one of the most potent offenses in the nation and has needed it as their pitching staff and defense is not good. Soph Corey Luckie goes for Auburn and he has a 6.35 ERA; 1.47 WHIP; .285 OBA and 44 K?s in 52 1/3 IP. Ole Miss counters with Drew Pomeranz (2.15 ERA; 1.17 WHIP; .176 OBA and 121 K?s 79 2/3 IP). Pomeranz has dominating stuff as shown by those #?s. He has had issues with free passes though this year (36 BB?s in 56 1/3 IP of conference play), but usually overcomes it with his strikeout ability (81 K?s in that conference play time). I?m not expecting Pomeranz to keep Auburn completely in check, but a power pitcher like him will limit the amount of damage they can do. And with Auburn?s shaky pitching and defense, Ole Miss will put up the runs to give him a lead early.
South Carolina -130 (vs. Florida) for 2 units ? two pretty even teams in this top 10 matchup. Senior Blake Cooper (USC?s starter) has surprised me this year in being a much better pitcher than he was earlier in his career. His best starts have come against his toughest competition too. Florida?s starter (Soph Alex Panteliodis) has been roughed up in recent outings and I think the Gamecocks at home can get to him.
