not much can be done about n.korea sinking a s.korean ship at their own whim.... with n. korean leadership being unstable.....and that fact that they are a nuclear power....

not a damned thing will be done....this is the power that comes with going nuclear...and iran knows this...

something has to be done about iran...and soon...tough decisions have to be made...it`s a pay me now or pay me later scenario....

the destruction of israel, the handing off of nuclear weapons covertly to terrorists and a burgeoning nuclear arms race in the volatile middle east are the probable future implications resulting from the west sitting on our hands,,,

it`s a much different...much more dangerous scenario than n. korea...

Wease, what do you personally think we should do about Iran? I'm not attacking you, I'm wondering what you think would change things? Do you think we should attack them? Bomb their facilities? I would agree that Iran is a serious problem, but I do not favor attacking or bombing them. It might be the right thing to do, in many ways. I just don't think we can afford to do it financially or in relation to foreign policy expectations in the world. There's NO doubt in my mind, there would be many more countries lining up against us and supporting terror against our country, for starters.

I've asked Wayne to consult with his leader Krauthammer (what an appropriate name, eh?) and get back to me on this. Maybe you will. I'm not saying a pre-emptive strike is wrong, but I just don't think our track record is very good about what would happen after we shock them into toeing the line.

Obama tells military: prepare for North Korea aggression

Obama tells military: prepare for North Korea aggression

(Reuters) ? President Barack Obama has directed the U.S. military to coordinate with South Korea to ?ensure readiness? and deter future aggression from North Korea, the White House said on Monday.

The United States gave strong backing to plans by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak to punish North Korea for sinking one of its naval ships, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.

The White House urged North Korea to apologize and change its behavior, he said.
?We endorse President Lee?s demand that North Korea immediately apologize and punish those responsible for the attack, and, most importantly, stop its belligerent and threatening behavior,? Gibbs said.

?U.S. support for South Korea?s defense is unequivocal, and the president has directed his military commanders to coordinate closely with their Republic of Korea counterparts to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression,? he said.

Obama and Lee have agreed to meet at the G20 summit in Canada next month, he said.
Late last week, a team of international investigators accused North Korea of torpedoing the Cheonan corvette in March, killing 46 sailors in one of the deadliest clashes between the two since the 1950-53 Korean War.

Lee said on Monday South Korea would bring the issue before the U.N., whose past sanctions have damaged the already ruined North Korean economy.

The United States still has about 28,000 troops in South Korea to provide military support.
The two Koreas, still technically at war, have more than 1 million troops near their border.
?We will build on an already strong foundation of excellent cooperation between our militaries and explore further enhancements to our joint posture on the Peninsula as part of our ongoing dialogue,? Gibbs said.

Gibbs said the United States supported Lee?s plans to bring the issue to the United Nations Security Council and would work with allies to ?reduce the threat that North Korea poses to regional stability.?

Obama had also directed U.S. agencies to evaluate existing policies toward North Korea.
?This review is aimed at ensuring that we have adequate measures in place and to identify areas where adjustments would be appropriate,? he said.

South Korea's Lee Myung-bak announced his retaliation plan for the attack on the Cheonan this morning in Seoul. Although restrained like he has been for the past two months, the president finally referred to the possibility of war:
"If our territorial waters, airspace or territory are militarily violated, we will immediately exercise our right of self-defense."
Moving from "passive defense to proactive deterrence" is a significant shift for a country that seems to get pushed around by North Korea every year. Just this month South Korea
fired warning shots when North Korean ships ventured across the border.
On the other hand, if Kim Jong-il were to refrain from lighting the powderkeg for a year or so, he'd be getting off easy. The rest of Lee's retaliation involves a ban on sand and fish imports. South Korea will continue to share an industrial complex with North Korea and continue sending foreign aid across the border.
Lee will also bring his case to the UN, but the UN can do little without the support of China.
Here's the rest of Lee's statement, from Joongang Daily:
"From this moment, no North Korean ship will be allowed to make passage through any of the shipping lanes in the waters under our control, which has been allowed by the Inter-Korean Agreement on Maritime Transportation,? Lee said. ?The sea routes meant for inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation must never again be used for armed provocations.?
?In close consultations with the nations concerned, the government will refer this matter to the UN Security Council, so that the international community can join us in holding the North accountable,? Lee said. ?Many countries around the world have expressed their full support for our position.?
?Trade and exchanges between the Republic of Korea and North Korea will also be suspended,? Lee said. ?However, we will continue to provide assistance for infants and children,? he said. ?Matters pertaining to the Kaesong Industrial Complex will be duly considered, taking its unique characteristics into consideration.?

.................................................................

Have you even stopped to think about what you are saying ?

Lets say Isreal and the US go into Iran and take out most of their nuclear capability.

That is if they havnt gotten it hidden deep in a mountain like they probably do. They were working on this way back into the Bush Admin and he didnt do chit .

When we do that .

Iran is going to close down the port that takes oil in and out to America and many other countrys. We are going to have a oil shortage like we have never seen.

Iran has the army to invade anyone they like . The fawkers fought with Iraq for years and never flinched sending more men and equipment. They could invade any country they wanted and no one would be able to stop them.

Iran would immediately start shooting rockets of all sizes at Isreal and other US interests all over the middle east.

Anymore bright ideas ?

Right on queue, there's our resident chickenhawk - Weezy advocating pre-emptive strikes on Iran, thereby drawing the U.S. into a third war in the Middle East. Then it'll be North Korea. Then who Weezy... Venezuela, Mexico, Saudi Arabia?

"Fiscal conservatives" like Weezy like to pretend that military spending and wars are free!!! :00hour

They seem to suffer from some bizarre form of dementia that prevents them from understanding that military spending comes out of the same federal budget and contributes to the same national debt as the domestic programs they like to like to piss & moan about every day.

Pssst... Weezy... Let's invade Sweden too. I heard that's where Saddam hid his WMD's... and if we're wrong, we have our way with their women and get the hell out of there.
