YTD Record: 71-61 for +17.45 units

Conference tournament time, here is what I?m going with today trying to take advantage of some pitching mismatches:

Baylor +150 (vs. K-State) for 4 units ? Wildcats are a slightly better offensive club, but a big pitching edge for the starters goes to Baylor. Baylor goes with their ace Logan Verrett (2.98 ERA; 1.18 WHIP; .248 OBA and 89 K?s in 81 2/3 IP). Verrett has been very strong all year and especially down the stretch for an average Baylor club. K-State counters with Kayvon Bahramzadeh (6.64 ERA; 1.70 WHIP; .300 OBA and 36 K?s in 40 2/3 IP). Bahramzadeh was a midweek starter at the beginning of the year but was thrust into the weekend rotation towards the end of the year and was hit hard by conference opponents. Baylor only has an average pen, but it is better than the Wildcats, so I think the offensive advantage K-State has will be overcome and Baylor wins.

Ole Miss +105 (vs. S. Carolina) for 4 units ? I?m going to tout Drew Pomeranz in this game again, despite the fact I?ve lost betting on him specifically 3 times in the last 6 weeks. His numbers were good enough to earn him SEC pitcher of the year honors (2.39 ERA; 1.19 WHIP; .186 OBA and 127 K?s in 86 2/3 IP). Earlier in the year when he faced USC, he held them scoreless in 7 IP with 10 K?s, too bad his pen blew it for him. USC is the better offensive club, but some of their power is negated due to the big park they are playing in today. Gamecocks will start Nolan Belcher (2.03 ERA; 1.20 WHIP; .184 OBA and 29 K?s in 26 2/3 IP). Belcher was a weekend starter last year for USC, but started out the season as their midweek starter and fell into bad graces with the coaching staff and was left off of their travel roster. He?s only pitched in 10 games, 5 being midweek starts. The competition he?s faced in those starts has been very meager. Part of his issue with not getting to pitch as much has been his command. In that limited work he has walked 16 batters, has 5 Wild Pitches (leads the team) and 2 HBP. USC has a great pen, but Ole Miss should be able to stake an early lead due to the starting pitching edge.

Vandy -120 (vs. Arkansas) for 4 units ? the two clubs are pretty even offensively, but considering some of Arkansas? injuries Vandy gets the edge. The Razorbacks best hitter Zach Cox (.432 avg) is doubtful to play in the SEC tournament due to a bad back. Arkansas best power hitter Brett Eibner (18HR, 61 RBI) is day-to-day with a hand injury. Also a big advantage pitching wise to the Commodores. They will start their ace Sonny Gray (3.44 ERA; 1.32 WHIP; .231 OBA and 92 K?s in 86 1/3 IP). These two teams just played last weekend and Gray earned the W going 8 innings giving up 3 ER with 9 K?s. Arkansas is having pitcher Jeremy Heatly make his first collegiate start. Heatly has average numbers on the year in 21 relief appearances (4.76 ERA; 1.12 WHIP and 37 K?s in 34 IP). However, if you look at his performance in just SEC play he has 12.54 ERA giving up 13 ER, 15 Hits, 6 BB?s and 8 K?s in 9 1/3 IP. Get this one at betus as thegreek already has it up over -200

was tempted to play Clemson as NC State is throwing their #3 pitcher, but laid off as Harmann hasn't pitched all that well recently.

great day going 3-0 and getting myself out of the whole I dug last weekend.

Updated Record: 74-61 for +31.65 units

big day for the dogs with 8 of them cashing out of the 11 lined games today (1 game still being played). another big slate tomorrow and I'm already looking at the games. Most schools are doing a better job than in years past of listing their pitchers for the conference games, so easier to get a read on things.

one early one (9:30 am est) to start off with:

South Carolina -120 (vs. Auburn) for 3 units - Gamecocks #1 pitcher Blake Cooper going today (3.08 ERA; 1.11 WHIP; .223 OBA and 82 K's in 96 1/3 IP), which is a big plus as he has done well in big games all year. Cooper had an average outing against Auburn earlier in the year giving up 4 ER in 7 IP for a win. Auburn goes with starter Grant Dayton (4.61 ERA; 1.31 WHIP; .279 OBA and 56 K's in 80 IP). He also had a starter earlier in the year against USC and got a W giving up 5 ER in 7 1/3 IP. Defensive and bullpen edges are decidedly in USC's favor. Auburn has a big edge in power and offense, but as noted yesterday, this is a decent sized park they are playing in and the scores yesterday were indicative of that. Many long fly balls yesterday in the SEC tournament. Gamecocks have some power, but they are the better team of these two to win playing a small ball type.

Working on the other write-ups now.

UVa -175 (vs. FSU) for 3 units ? not too high of a price in my mind for a club that has advantages across the board on the Noles. Offense, defense and pen edges are all decisively in UVa?s favor. Starting pitching is a big plus for them too. They go with their #2 guy Robert Morey (3.14 ERA; 1.16 WHIP; .218 OBA and 66 K?s in 86 IP). Morey has been a bit overshadowed by his teammate Hultzen but has performed really well especially down the stretch. He has given up just 1 ER in each of his last 3 starts, two of those being Complete Games. FSU goes with Brian Busch (4.42 ERA; 1.29 WHIP; .238 OBA and 61 K?s in 59 IP). Not bad #?s for Busch but he hasn?t been as good in conference play against better competition (5.85 ERA; 1.60 WHIP .273 OBA and 37 K?s in 40 IP). I?ll go with the hot pitcher and the better all around club in this one.

Texas -310 (vs. Texas Tech) for 2 units ? just don?t see a team like Texas going 0-2 to start the conference tourney. Longhorns haven?t lost two straight since the opening weekend of the season. They will go with Taylor Jungmann on the mound to start (2.20 ERA; 1.10 WHIP.211 OBA and 110 K?s in 98 IP). Jungmann was roughed up earlier in the year when facing Tech (8 ER in 5 2/3 IP), but given Texas has the best overall pitching staff in the country, if he gets in some trouble there are plenty of options to help them out. Tech goes with their best strikeout pitcher Chad Bettis (4.71 ERA; 1.57 WHIP; .287 OBA and 92 K?s in 78 1/3 IP). Bettis has spent time as a starter, long reliever and closer for the Red Raiders. Bettis had two appearances against Texas earlier this year, one in relief (3 ER in 1 2/3 IP) and one in a start (5 R in 4 IP). He will no doubt rack up some K?s against a free swinging Longhorn team, but they should be able to get some hits and chase him to get to an honestly pretty woeful Tech bullpen.

GaTech -155 (vs. VaTech) for 3 units ? another game where there are edges across the board for the Yellow Jackets. Offensively, defensively and the pen are all nods to GaTech. Starting pitching also goes there way as they will have their ace (Deck McGuire) face the Hokies (Justin Wright). McGuire (2.83 ERA; 1.11 WHIP; .228 OBA and 105 K?s in 98 2/3 IP) pitched well in his outing vs. VaTech (1 ER in 7 IP). However, he was matched in that game by Wright (1 ER in 8 IP) in a game the Hokies won in 11 innings. On the season Wright has a 3.76 ERA; 1.25 WHP; .237 OBA and 80 K?s in 83 2/3 IP, but has been hit hard in recent outings.

Texas A&M -125 (vs. Mizzou) for 6 units ? this play is all about the advantage in starting pitching that A&M has. They go with their ace Barrett Loux (2.53 ERA; 1.07 WHIP; .194 WHIP and 119 K?s in 89 IP). Loux has been good throughout the year as his conference stats are almost identical to his season-long #?s. In his prior outing against the Tigers he went 7 IP, gave up 3 H?s, 1 BB, 1 ER with 11 K?s. Mizzou counters with Kelly Fick (3.53 ERA; 1.34 WHIP and 31 K?s in 43 1/3 IP). Fick was mostly a reliever this year, but made two starts the last two weekends of the season and was hit hard. His conference #?s aren?t as good (4.91 ERA; 1.71 WHIP) and A&M should be able to get to him today.

Bama -105 (vs. Ole Miss) for 3 units ? two teams going in opposite directions. Bama has won 6 straight with 2 of those being against Ole Miss. Ole Miss had lost 5 straight prior to yesterday?s win. Better offense and defense goes to Bama. Ole Miss has the better pen, but starting pitching has a slight edge to Bama. The Tide goes with Nathan Kilcrease (2.39 ERA; 0.91 WHIP; .197 OBA and 65 K?s in 71 2/3 IP). He was a reliever for most of the year before making 3 starts the last 3 weekends of the season. He was roughed up his first start, but pitched real well the last two, including a complete game 5 H 2 ER outing vs. Ole Miss. Ole Miss goes with Aaron Barrett as their starter (4.03 ERA; 1.33 WHIP; .228 OBA and 92 K?s in 82 2/3 IP). Barrett has had an up and down year with some real good outings and some real bad outings, including his last time out. In his outing vs. Bama he only gave up 1 ER on 2 H in 6 2/3 IP but walked 8. Walks have been an issue for him this year, so if the Tide can be patient, they should be able to capitalize on Barrett.

Gamecocks waste a great outing by Cooper and leave a ton of guys on base as they lose 3-1 in 12 innings. A pretty chalky day for me, but looking for the fav's to bounce back today.

Holy chit, Batman. Matty Ott scares the chit out of me every time he takes the mound. Tiger swung the bats well again, but made a couple of baserunning blunders. A nice outing from Ross, who was dominant after the 2nd inning, was nearly wasted by another poor performance by the former frosh all american closer.

Looking forward to a long weekend of ncaa bases:toast:

Should have gone with my gut and placed something on the Tigers. I took a beating today with just Bama and A&M coming through. Just when I get back up, I knock myself back down.

Great time of year. Headed to Omaha in 3 weeks and can't wait.

1-1 yesterday for nill as K-State wins, Vandy loses and NC State game is postponed until today.

Today's plays:

UVa -150 (vs. Miami) for 4 units - Hultzen goes for UVa while Gutierrez goes for the Canes. Same two pitchers squared off last Saturday in a 7-4 UVa win. Hultzen wasn't at his best in that game, but still good enough. Believe he and the Cav's get another win against Miami today.

Oklahoma -125 (vs. K-State) for 3 units - Much better squad and believe they will be motivated as a loss good keep them from hosting a regional.

Kansas +200 (vs. Baylor) for 1 unit - Baylor is the much better team but they have locked up a spot in the Big XII title game so this game is a bit meaningless to them. Kansas isn't assured of getting in the NCAA tourney so this may be their last game of the year.

good day yesterday going 2-1 but hit the bigger plays in Oklahoma and UVa. Today just a few small plays:

A&M -110 (vs. Baylor) for 1 unit

LSU -125 (vs. Bama) for 1 unit

St. John's +180 (vs. UConn) for 1 unit - they have played 1 less game this weekend, so hopefully more rested arms will aid them.

FSU -175 (vs. NC State) for 2 units

for some reason they have a line on Minny/Iowa despite the fact that the Gophers won the Big 10 tourney over Iowa yesterday. Probably won't be graded but go ahed and plunk down some $ on that one.
