I am leaning to one of three....Portuguese, Chinese or Italian.

I feel like my learning Chinese could be very beneficial for my kids, as I can tutor them as they grow up. If I were a growing up these days, I would most certainly be looking into taking Chinese in school......particularly over Latin, which I wasted 4 years on as a youth.

Italian would appear to be my easiest choice, as it seems similar to Spanish. In fact, I seemed to catch the grasp of italian conversations on both of my visits there.

Portuguese intrigues me as well. Plus, I am going to Portugal next summer, so it gives me a goal to work towards.

Gonna try it out. Thanks.....

By the way Cie, go with Italian... It'll give you a great excuse to go there, plus the ladies love it!
I don't know about Chinese, but once you visit portugal and hear the language you'll realize how ugly it sounds. Picked up a few words when I went there and I have to say it's not exactly the 'sexiest' sounding language.

I've decided on Italian with input from my wife. I still want my kids to learn Chinese, but I guess that will be up to them. My cuz married a chinese girl, and she is talking about giving lessons to them.

BTW, I am familiar with Portuguese, as I have been there numerous times because my family is from a town in Spain 2 hours north of the border. Agreed that it sounds rough. It is actually very similar to the Galician dialect, which many of my relatives also speak.........

I went to the site and completed the first lesson. The :30 wen t by quickly and I felt like retained roughly 90% of the material. I purchased Italian I, Comprehensive, and will follow up with II and III.

$350 a pop seemed a bit expensive, but thinking about it, a 3 credit hour university coursewill run more than this. I bet I get more out of the CDs anyway, not to mention the convenience factor.

I am on my way......:toast:

Glad to hear. Forgot to mention I got Italian Rossetta Stone as a gift a few years back. Spent a couple hours on it and went back to pimsleur. It's just so much more effective I think. Hope you will be happy with it.

I am thinking of trying it out. How long did you spend on it daily?

Sorry Cie I just saw this.

To be honest I downloaded it off a torrent a while ago and really did not spend too much time on it.

I work with people who speak spanish and russian and just used the software here and there.

I heard Chinese is one of the most difficult languages to learn, especially as an adult. If you are going to have your kids learns, start them early.

IMO, Chinese is the best language for kids to start learning. They are quickly taking over the world and in 5-10 years it will be a very desired skill.

Will look into this downloading deal, but I am not sure I'm in good standing with the library.
