WASILLA, Alaska ? Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is making good on a threat to build a fence around her Wasilla home to keep her new neighbor ? an author who is writing a book about her ? from peering in.

Palin, wearing running shorts, a T-shirt and visor, joked with a reporter outside the gate of her lakeside home Thursday about having to build a fence to protect her family's privacy. But she declined further comment, saying she was busy babysitting her nephews.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, took to Facebook on Monday to "welcome" author Joe McGinniss, who'd previously written a critical magazine article on Palin. She said he was renting a house next door "for the next five months or so" and wondered what he'd gather "while overlooking Piper's bedroom, my little garden, and the family's swimming hole?"

She said work would begin on a "tall fence tomorrow."

By Wednesday, a picture of the wooden fence was posted on the blog of Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. Palin is a contributor to Fox News.

McGinniss, author of such best-selling books as "The Selling of the President," "Blind Faith" and "Fatal Vision," is planning a book, tentatively titled, "Sarah Palin's Year of Living Dangerously." It could be on book shelves next year.

McGinniss' publishing house, Broadway Books, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

A tree-lined lane leads to Palin's lakeside home; there's also a gate to help keep gawkers at bay.

Attempts to reach neighbors on either side of her property weren't successful. A chain-link fence blocks one drive, which is also marked "Private, keep out." No one answered at the other, which is posted "Private property. Enter at your own risk."

Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright said McGinniss met with him and told him he was researching his book and moving to town. He even told the mayor where he'd be living.

"So at least I knew," he said. "I thought that was a courtesy he paid, and probably the right thing to do."

Rupright said there hadn't been "any real rumpus" around town and that he's hoping for a quiet next few months.

If Palin wants to put up a fence, he said, that's her right.

"No crime has been reported," he said. "You just want to keep a nice, quiet and safe community."

The guy has the right to live where ever he chooses to. Sister Sarah, being a drama queen is making all of this shit up in her head, being that there is such much space in between her ears.

Not that I care too much about the subject, I do find your live anywhere he wants to thought interesting. Considering how you are so strong on private rights and privacy, Illum, how would you feel if this guy wanted to move in next to you and watch every move you made, and write about it? Guessing he would be questioning all your neighbors, taking pictures, looking into your past, etc. Probably standing next to your land, taking notes, etc. Would you take issue with that? Just curious, not trying to start anything.

Yes,

He can live there, it's his right, I was objecting to pictures of Sister Sarah in shorts and and a tank top. Why not live close to the subject he is writing about, should he live in NY to do his book ? He would be ripped for not being close to the subject.

Ah, and now the rest of the story comes out:

Angry Palin neighbor rented house to writer to get back at her for ?delinquent bills?

By John Byrne
Friday, May 28th, 2010 -- 8:54 am

A neighbor of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin got so angry for what she says was unpaid bills for renovations that she decided she would try to rent her house to someone who wanted to look into Palin's life as a result -- what media reports are calling "revenge by rent."

And she did: a non fiction writer took up her offer.

Palin immediately accused the woman of enabling a "stalker." Her husband has built a 14-foot-tall cedar fence around her property (photo below).

"No one is stalking anyone," the novelist Joe McGinniss, Jr., wrote in response to an email from a Palin supporter, according to Politico's Ben Smith, defending his father's decision to rent the house. "A woman was renting her house and sought out the author because the Palins had crossed her (owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for). So she knew McGinniss was writing the book and found him and offered him the house."

He added: "f you were writing a biography of Tiger Woods and had the chance to move in with him, or his pool house, or rent next door or down the street from him -- it would be journalistic malpractice not to. As a writer, you go where the story is, get as close as you can to it. People who write about politics, campaigns, they travel with the candidates, stay in the same motels, ride the bus, eat breakfast, hang out any and everywhere they can to get access. It's pretty basic. We want to read the work of someone who is as close to their subject as possible. That's called reporting. And when it's for a book about someone, all the more important to be close....

"He's not stalking or peeping or peering or meddling," he continued. "He's simply fulfilling his obligations to his publisher and his readers and himself -- to get as close to the subject of his book as possible. You'll never see tabloid photos or depictions of backyard activities. He's a professional writer with great integrity and an amazing sense of fairness."

Palin's neighbor claimed she got more lucrative offers from the National Enquirer, but turned them down.

Palin said her husband, Todd, had been "trying to get hold of [the neighbor] all winter long"... "for fear of something like this happening."

---------------------------

Hmm, sure, Sarah. I'm sure it would be very difficult to get ahold of YOUR NEIGHBOR all winter long. Why would you be worried about something like this? Owing money for repair bills might be a good reason, eh? I guess these neighbors must live on the U.S. side of the Palins, as the other side apparently has Russians living there...

Perhaps a better title for this thread could have been...

Another Conservative Hypocrite?

Gee... go figure, Palin using her kids as human shields against the "liberal media" like she ALWAYS does. Make McGinniss out to be some kind of a pervert peering into her kid's bedrooms and watching them swim. It's no different than what she pulled with Letterman. What else is new from this unoriginal, palm-reading, half-termer?

I hope you would want to PROTECT your own children if you were in the same situation, sometimes you just have to acknowledge strange behavior.

JMHO.
