Terry Fox

For those that don't know who he was, look him up. What this guy did was unreal. I was lucky enough to actually see him in person. He ran by my house when I was a kid, I still remember that day.

With all the scum people in the world, it is good to see the good that one person can do. He is maybe the greatest :canada1 to ever live and to this day his determination still amazes me:scared

I have yet to see a person do what he did.

Puts life in perspective that's for sure.

One of my oldest memories as a kid was him going on his run. Not only was it a national story, but it was a big deal where I lived because I'm not far from BC. I still don't know how anyone could do that.

"The Terry Fox Story" was one of the first docudramas I can remember watching on HBO. His story is so inspiring. What an incredible young man!

About 5 years ago there was 6 month process deciding on who was "the greatest Canadian of all time". After millions and millions of votes here were the results:

1 Tommy Douglas
2 Terry Fox
3 Pierre Elliott Trudeau
4 Sir Frederick Banting
5 David Suzuki
6 Lester B. Pearson
7 Don Cherry
8 Sir John A. Macdonald
9 Alexander Graham Bell
10 Wayne Gretzky

I myself would have put him at #1.

Also.....a complete joke that he is not on our money. Take the fucking Queen off our money and put Terry on it:nono:

:

Is this Don Cherry the former coach of the Bruins?

Where the hell is Joshua Jackson on that list? A top 10 list without Joshua Jackson is pretty suspect, if you ask me. :0008

As a fellow Scot, I can't complain about Tommy Douglas being #1. :SIB But I do think you have a pretty good argument about Fox.

One other thing... Don Cherry ahead of Bell? Really? Really??? I know he's Mr. Hockey up there, but come on. You're taking hockey a little to seriously if you rank him above Bell. Maybe I'm biased though cuz Bell is another Scot. :142smilie

There was an excellent book about Terry Fox mainly pictures show a short read called Terry 2005,(time flys remember reading it) believe most of the money goes to terry fox foundation. and the fox family supported it...

written by douglas coupland. great stories about his life and the cross country journey. also in the back talked about the projects terry fox foundation were funding in that year...more charities should do that, simple and straight forward...and the amount given.

he is on a loonie (Canadian $1 coin) looks good, also there is a statue where he ended his run, they did a great job, and the backdrop is Lake Superior...fitting. worth checking out... if anyone need a tour guide just give me a few months, and can show you the sites.

the Canadian top 100 list is not bad, however like most of them they are flawed and for the most part stupid...hopefully though people may learn more about history...

Canadians are about the worse for knowing their own history...

to prove the list is flawed they left a billiant cnd. railway eng. off the list..( I believe) and they left the one and only

James Bond off the list, how does that happen...(the greatest spy ever), okay the person James bond was based on....just unreal.

thanks

selkirk......yes Terry has "popped up" on some currency from "time to time". Sadly they were just "special coins".

He needs to be on our money permanently

The guy was a hero and the greatest Canadian to ever live.

I was listening to the Simmons podcast a few minutes ago with Steve Nash and they are doing a 30 for 30 documentary about Terry. It will be released in September. Good stuff. I love all of these 30 for 30 docs and the HBO ones as well. I will be hnest I didn't know who Terry Fox was until a few days ago so I'm glad that this will hit a huge group of people here in the states that didn't know of him

Thanks for "heads up" safrank, look forward to it. There have been a ton of movies, docs, specials, etc. about Terry Fox. Another feature is always welcome.

Shocked that "Hollywood" hasn't done a movie about him:shrug:
