Report: Texas, Texas A&M eyeing Big Ten while Oklahoma working to join SEC
According to several sources in multiple conferences, KCTV-5 in Kansas City is reporting that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to join the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned the league for membership.
This comes after a prior report that said should the Big 12 break apart, then Texas and Texas A&M would join four other schools in heading West to join the Pac-10. Colorado became the first Big 12 school to make that move Thursday when it was announced the school had accepted an invitation from the Pac-10.
KCTV's report also says that Oklahoma is working to petition the SEC for membership.
The report contradicts what Oklahoma athletics directory Joe Castiglione told the Tulsa World's Dave Sittler Wednesday night.
"I think it would be a horrendous decision for OU and Texas to break up," Castiglione said. "We're going to stick together if it's at all possible."
That possibility appears to be shrinking.
In addition, TMZ Sports reported that Oklahoma State will join Colorado in accepting an invitation to join the Pac-10.
A person in the Oklahoma State athletics department told the website that the move is a "done deal."
Should these reports prove true, that leaves Big 12 schools Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State scrambling to find new homes.
