GAME 7 history repeats itself

17 years ago today a white ford Bronco rode endlessly down the L.A. Freeway. I remember that day more because they interrupted my beloved Knicks in Game 5 of the NBA finals against Houston to follow that ridiculous chase...The Knicks went on to win game 5 at home only to lose the next two in Houston...

As I looked further at the results of that painful series I realized that this year's NBA finals are following the exact pattern of those year's finals with the championship team (and #1 seed) winning game 1 at home, losing game 2 at home, winning game 3 on the road, losing games 4 and 5 on the road and coming back to win game 6 at home....and then game 7 at home..

I'll go along with the script on this one and watch history repeat itself ...makes a good story...LAKERS WIN....although I doubt Ray Allen (or even Rajon Rondo) will pull off a John Starks imitation and go 2 for 18 from the field..2 for 18? in a GAME 7? What the hell was Pat Riley thinking? Pat, when Starks was 1 for 9 or 1 for 12, did you even think to go to Hubert Davis or were you numb at that point?

Series summary

Game 1 Wednesday, June 8 Houston 85-78 New York NBC 9:00et
Game 2 Friday, June 10 Houston 83-91 New York NBC 9:00et

i didn't say I was making a play based on it Mr. Boozer, I just out it out there...

I'm already locked in on series plays risking $1500 to win $1000 so if anything I'd make a money line hedge play on Boston, but without Perk and on the road, I just don't think they get it done...

Good luck to you, with whatever you play and why.

Do you ever start your own thread or just run interference on others?

Oliver,
Seriously? I've seen you mucking up other peoples threads all playoffs long... and now you come in spewing drivel about the KNICKS-ROCKETS aka the most unsightly finals in history being the predecessor of this glorious matchup of the greatest rivalry in the NBA, and perhaps sports. And then can't take it when someone calls you out. Seriously? How is this even a close to a reasonable comparison other than the way the games fell with home and road so far. I liked your long ass post the other day, but my opinion of your basketball acumen is slipping my friend.

Major differences:

The Celtics have already won a championship.

These teams have already faced each other.

The Celtics have already beaten this Lakers team.

That series featured 2 hall of famers, this one has 4 locks, perhaps 6.

Also, your stats are a bit off:

First, the Rockets were the #2 seed. The Knicks were the #1 seed in the East.

Soooooo. As far as I can see the only basis for your reasoning is because of the home, away, away, home, home, away , away trend. Seems like sound logic to me. :sadwave:

The Lakers may well win, but certainly not because of history repeating itself.

Good luck with your bets! :toast:

Why start my own thread when there are so many compelling ones like yours already? And I hardly call my opinion running intereference. Good Luck Knucklehead

Peteyboy,

I never said the lakers would win because history repeats itself. That's absurd..Although I do think they win.....I simply pointed out some odd circumstance of the finals series outcome patterning the exact same way the series did 17 years ago coinciding with the date in history that OJ went rogue.

And if you recall you, Peteyboy were the one spouting off how the Celtics were gonna pound the Lakers...at one point you even called a sweep for the Celtics..do you recall that? or do you want to deny that in this public forum..why did you call a sweep peter? because you have a man crush on Bill Simmons? because you live in L.A. and hate Kobe and the Lakers? Whose basketball acumen is in question now Peter? And you have been saying how "awesome" Rondo is Peter..I told you he has grown but is overrated and not yet ready to be anointed the best point guard in the league..I loved when Jeff van Gundy said "the lakers might want to consider Hack-A-Rondo" late in game 5..A point guard who can't shoot free throws? Jeez. And you gotta love Phil Jackson's strategy by laying off Rondo and daring him to take that 15 foot jumper..He looks even more tentative than Kendrick Perkins does from that distance...Rondo's gonna have to come up huge tonite for the Celtics win. and shoot better than the 4-17 fro the free throw line that he's managed to shoot thus far..4-17? from the free-throw line? right...But hey, Glen Davis jumped open his trap again (and no it wasn't to shovel in several big Macs but that's still unconfirmed) but he did guarantee a Boston win in Game 7... That guy's balls are as big stomach...Enjoy the game Peteyboy.

You wanna make money?..bet the Rondo under MEDIUM SIZE PLAY and Pierce Over props XTRA LARGE..and the Lakers first quarter and the 4th quarter game total over for small.

Good luck to all. Lakers Win Peteyboy. Maybe you should post the photo of you wearing the Kobe Jersey, you remember the one., from our bet last year where you would buy and wear and Kobe Jersey of the Lakers won...Wanna go again? I'll buy and wear a Rondo jersey if the Celts win and you buy and wear an Artest jersey if the lakers Win...whatta say big boy?:box2:

Perhaps I called a sweep to egg you on Oliver - which at this point seems all too easy:00hour ? If you remember it was just one of many calls I made before this series began. ( celtics in 5, celtics in 6, celtics in 7) {I have the emails to back it up}

as for your other generous offer, no way does artest jersey = rondo jersey. The artest jersey would be about the most painful thing I could have to wear or own. I'm making the ron ron crazy eyes just thinking about it. :thefinger How about I purchase the Ron Ron jersey and wear it if the lakers win, but if they lose you get a tattoo of A-Rod as a centaur? I'd do that.

I think Rondo is the key to this game. If he plays well, Celts can win. If not, they're done. However. I think he plays well. :0074 wouldn't be surprised to see Phil go hack-a-rondo in this game. Rondo is ridiculously good, and has flashes of being the BEST pg in the league, but perhaps all that talk was a bit premature.
