I'm still not sure why we can't EVER compare KOBE to JORDAN.....EVER!

I don't understand how this one game let us compare or not compare, and after now getting his 5th ring....

The start of this thread might be the dumbest statement in the history of western civilization.

If Kobe isn't better than or equal to Jordan, he is damn close.

I didn't win $1,000 but I did win $300.

After this series he showed he's not in the same leauge. He's a step below MJ.

Its tough to say, but I think he's pretty close. Yeah, Jordan probably played against better competition at the top, but there were some really bad teams in those days too.

So maybe it is and will always be apples/oranges. Kobe has probably faced a lot more athleticism and done it night in and night out, but like you say, the top teams back then were better.

I definitely put them in the same breath. Jordan is the best but Kobe is right there.

Thats a moot point. Jordan was more explosive and athletic than Kobe.

Wilbon said he is not sure he would even put Kobe in the top 10 all time.

I tend to agree.

Also if I hear ESPN call Derek Fisher classy one more time I am gonna puke.

The guy is a douchebag. He flops like a bitch and classy guys don't do what he did last year to Scola in the playoffs and it wasn't the first time this douchebag cheap shoted another player.

Just because he went through a difficult time with his daughter doesn't mean he is classy.
Thank god she is ok, but he can't erase being a douchebag because we are supposed to feel sorry for his personal troubles.

:00hour

i've been saying that for YEARS, the guy is a fuking college player in the nba...and more specifically, a duke-like college player, playing in the nba.

what do i mean?

he flops all over the place, but worse yet...he jumps in and slides under offensive players ALL THE TIME trying to draw a charge. and the worst part is, he gets the call way too often.

that's the definition of a college kid who cant defend anyone 1-1...they just jump in the way hoping for charges.

Kobe Bryant is the deadliest closer in NBA history.

At least for the month of January he is. :142smilie

I have never seen him close out a playoff game like he does a regular season game, but I don't really give a damn about Lakers playoff games so maybe I missed something.
I doubt it though, he is Mr. January in my book.
Jordan took over Finals series. I think Kobe took over 1 game in this series.

Bryant has not had 1 single season (especially in the playoffs) that equal MJ's average statistically. I want everyone to stop ignoring the efficiency with which MJ played with and the great inefficiency Kobe plays with. 6-24 in Game 7 C'mon. I think that if you give Nate Robinson 24 shots in the finals, he will make 6, but that doesn't make him great.
There is no debate, and the only reason there is, is because it generates media interest.
Jordan Bulls vs. Kobe Lakers - No contest (Even Phil would agree). When Phil coached the Bulls, he was a spectator to the show which was Michael Jordan. When he coaches Kobe, he is a disciplinarian, a teacher, a psychiatrist, and a voodoo master. Hoping against all hope that Kobe will not blow the game for them. I am sure that the thought of keeping him on the floor at the end of the game crossed his mind. This would never happen with Michael. MJ would never leave a single piece of doubt of who is the greatest basketball player. Kobe cant even do that on his own team.
As old as Kobe is, he is not a mature man. He is still a kid who thinks the whole world is made for him. He does not have the awareness it takes to see past the game of basketball and understand how to truly be great.

Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan: There's Still No Debate, Jordan is King
by Steven Resnick Senior Writer Written on June 18, 2010 Kobe Bryant has just won another championship ring?his fifth. There will be some fans who will start to bring up the debate that Kobe is somehow on par with Michael Jordan.

The thing is, Bryant is not. Bryant is a great player who has been in the league 14 years and will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame when he does retire. Yet, Bryant will never be at the level of Jordan.

Looking at Jordan's accolades over his 15 year career, Bryant doesn't come close to measuring up. Jordan won the Rookie of the Year Award, a Defensive Player of the Year Award, five MVP Awards, and six Finals MVP Awards.

He also had 10 All-NBA First Team Selections, nine First Team All-Defensive selections, and one Second Team All-NBA selection.

Jordan's stats? He ranks first all-time in points per game with an average of 30.1, second all-time in steals with 2,514, third all-time in points with 32,292 points, third all-time in steals per game with 2.3, third all-time in field goal attempts, fourth all-time in field goals, fourth all-time in free throws, and ninth all-time in free throws attempted.

What about Bryant? What are his numbers like so far in his career, considering he's only played one year less than Jordan?

Bryant's accolades look like this: one MVP and two Finals MVPs.

He is an eight time All-NBA First Team selection, eight time All-NBA Defensive First Team, two time All-NBA Defensive Second Team, two time All-NBA Second Team, and two time All-NBA third team member.

For Bryant to even catch Jordan, he'd need a Rookie of the Year award (which of course he can't do), four more MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and four more Finals MVP Awards.

So in order for Bryant to match Jordan in terms of Finals MVP Award, he'd need to have nine rings.

In terms of ranking within the top 10 all-time of any category, the only one Bryant is a part of is free throws, where he's currently ranked 10th all-time.

Jordan scored 32,292 points in 15 years. Kobe? He has scored 25,790 points in 14 years. So, it likely won't be until Bryant's in his 17th year in the league before he passes Jordan for total points.

Even if you look at each player's best seasons, Jordan wins.

In the 1988-1989 season, Jordan averaged 32.5 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2.9 steals, while shooting 53.8 percent from the field, 27.6 percent from three, and 85 percent from the free throw line.

During Kobe's best year in the league he averaged 31.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.4 steals on 46.3 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three, and 86.8 percent from the free throw line.

In all 15 seasons, Jordan averaged over 20 points per game. Kobe has only done that in 12 out of 14 seasons.

Need more stats? OK.

Jordan averaged 30 points or more eight times, while Bryant has accomplished that feat three times. Jordan averaged over six rebounds a game nine times, while Bryant has done that three times. Jordan averaged over five assists nine times, and Bryant has averaged over five assists eight times, and Jordan averaged over two steals per game 10 times while Bryant only has done that once.

As for playoff numbers, Jordan is number one all-time in points per game in the playoffs at 33.4, and leads a slew of playoff categories. He is also first all-time in points, first all-time in field goals attempted, first all-time in free throws, second all-time in free throw attempts, second all-time in field goals, second all-time in steals, sixth all-time in steals per game, and seventh all-time in assists.

Bryant currently ranks third all-time in field goal attempts, fourth all-time in points, fourth all-time in field goals, fourth all-time in free throws, fifth all-time in free throws attempted, and eighth all-time in steals.

In terms of averages in the playoffs, Jordan averaged over 30 points 12 times and Bryant has averaged over 30 in the playoffs four times. Jordan averaged over six rebounds 10 times while Bryant has averaged over six four times, and Jordan averaged over five assists eight times while Bryant averaged over five assists seven times.

The numbers make it clear?Bryant has never come close to being better than Jordan.

The all-time ranks and the awards. Jordan has always been the better of the two, and it's not even close.

hilarious.......every single time somebody said another player measured up to Jordan, He destroyed them heads-up the next game.

that's the difference between the 2.

Also, In the Lakers first championship he shot 36% and scored 15 point a game. That's why the whole "he has 5 rings now" is overrated by the media

another waisted thread by King. Who the fuck cares if you think Kobe should NEVER be compared to Jordan. You got way too much time on your hands. You are like a girl and start shit just to get everybody in here arguing like a bunch of damn woman. Sorry to those of you who fell for this and assisted with his drama.
