I wasn't looking for this but it found me.

The 22 statistics detailed here prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the middle class is being systematically wiped out of existence in America.

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer at a staggering rate. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now that is changing at a blinding pace.

So why are we witnessing such fundamental changes? Well, the globalism and "free trade" that our politicians and business leaders insisted would be so good for us have had some rather nasty side effects. It turns out that they didn't tell us that the "global economy" would mean that middle class American workers would eventually have to directly compete for jobs with people on the other side of the world where there is no minimum wage and very few regulations. The big global corporations have greatly benefited by exploiting third world labor pools over the last several decades, but middle class American workers have increasingly found things to be very tough.

Giant Sucking Sound

The reality is that no matter how smart, how strong, how educated or how hard working American workers are, they just cannot compete with people who are desperate to put in 10 to 12 hour days at less than a dollar an hour on the other side of the world. After all, what corporation in their right mind is going to pay an American worker 10 times more (plus benefits) to do the same job? The world is fundamentally changing. Wealth and power are rapidly becoming concentrated at the top and the big global corporations are making massive amounts of money. Meanwhile, the American middle class is being systematically wiped out of existence as U.S. workers are slowly being merged into the new "global" labor pool.

What do most Americans have to offer in the marketplace other than their labor? Not much. The truth is that most Americans are absolutely dependent on someone else giving them a job. But today, U.S. workers are "less attractive" than ever. Compared to the rest of the world, American workers are extremely expensive, and the government keeps passing more rules and regulations seemingly on a monthly basis that makes it even more difficult to conduct business in the United States.

So corporations are moving operations out of the U.S. at breathtaking speed. Since the U.S. government does not penalize them for doing so, there really is no incentive for them to stay.

What has developed is a situation where the people at the top are doing quite well, while most Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to make it. There are now about six unemployed Americans for every new job opening in the United States, and the number of "chronically unemployed" is absolutely soaring. There simply are not nearly enough jobs for everyone.

Many of those who are able to get jobs are finding that they are making less money than they used to. In fact, an increasingly large percentage of Americans are working at low wage retail and service jobs.

But you can't raise a family on what you make flipping burgers at McDonald's or on what you bring in from greeting customers down at the local Wal-Mart.

The truth is that the middle class in America is dying -- and once it is gone it will be incredibly difficult to rebuild.

How did it find you TU ?

Anyways, it is really a fucked state of affairs that we now live in and the dire straits that are in front of us.

It's going to be over 117 degrees today and the homeless shelters can only do so much. I can buy 4 cases of water to help out, but I still feel it isn't enough. I have a large warehouse to provide cover and some what cooler conditions, but on the other hand I cannot afford some one getting hurt in here because they "tripped" over a crack.

How can we stop this wide spread globalization ? Too late now, I think, that's beyond my scope of expertise.

I do believe, ahh forget I think you know what I believe? Anyways truck is here, 2 hours late, 115 degrees now and I have to go out in this shit, and of course the the driver no habla ! :mj07:

I was doing some research on a few stocks and stumbled on it. Perfect for what we have been talking about lately.

I feel lucky to have AC. Hot weather is not a favorite of mine except that it brings the bikinis out! :0074

I think that's a done deal, which is why I can't figure out why the Tea-Baggers hate him so.

Well, don't forget. Neocons will not only help the rich but they will help the poor too. Tea baggers for the most part are very confused. The great thing about neocons is that no one really knows they stand for. Much like the tea baggers. Are they the tea baggers of Ron Paul or the tea baggers or Sarah Palin.
Speaking of which isn't it interesting how the "liberal" media manages to get her name in the news everyday.

You really don't know the difference between Ron Paul supporters and the Snapple Tea Party do you ? When you throw around the childish term "teabagger" like the dopes at MSNBC.

You got fat finger today huh? I had that yesterday :mj07: :toast:

Anyways... The Ron Paul Tea Party was a movement 3+ years before Faux News jumped on the Santelli Rant at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Calling Ron Paul Supporters Teabaggers is like calling Justin Beiber a great Heavy Metal Band in the same breath as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. A large percentage of Paul supporters know what they want, and Palin, Newt and their ilk isn't the answer. It's just more of the same.

I agree. As far as I can tell, this is the standard operating procedure for Neocons/Tea-Baggers:

1) Cut Funding.
2) Gut Agencies.
3) Cut Regulations.
4) Complain when the government doesn't have the immediate capacity to respond to yet another corporate screw-up (See BP).
5) Rinse & Repeat.

How could a conservative participate in discussion of "middle class" as defined by "Da Base."

I can't relate a "Middle Class" as defined by you all --that wants increased social programs and higher taxes --but ya all carry on amongst yourselves. :)

which exactly social programs are u talking about? Farm handouts's or Welfare? Medicare or bailouts for bankers and other corporations? I hate them both but u seem to have selective programs u are not in favor of  . Sorry actually i don't hate them all. If our senoirs can have an easier life im all for medicare. Again Welfare is peanuts compared to a defense budget that spends more than all the other nations combined. Where is ur outrage? Where is ur outrage for foreign aid  Where was ur outrage the 8 years Bush was spending us into oblivion? Were u for spending those eight years and u just figure out that u are now against it?
