Heading to Denver Weds. for a week, going to take in a few shows at Red Rocks this week-end. Hoping some of you can recommend some " off the beaten path" things to do/see while we are out there. Being from Fl., we cant wait to get into the mountains. Thanks for your suggestions.:0008

go take a weekend and hit colorado springs. nice looking city, Air Force Academy is there to check out, and just a nice drive down the freeway with all the mountains right there.

Red Rocks is an experience in and of itself. Make sure you get there early to enjoy the full "lot experience" :SIB

The places Vinnie said are great, but not exactly "off the beaten path", although estes park is surely worth the drive. If you want to really experience Colorado, you have to spend a day on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. Colorado Springs is great too (that's where I went to school), but I think you can get to a lot of great places that are closer and more remote.

One more remote place I really enjoy would be Golden Gate Canyon Park. This park is right by our house in Coal Creek Canyon and if you take the back road over the mountain, you can get to Blackhawk where all the casinos are. It is a pretty drive, and a lot of easy short hikes in the park. Walker Ranch is also in this area and there are some moderate hikes down to the lovely river.

My favorite place to go is Indian Peaks wilderness which is just north of Nederland. If you continue up the peak-to-peak highway, you get to Estes, so you could certainly make a day of it if you wanted to. There is an awesome moderately tough trail in Indian Peaks that takes you up to a gorgeous lake.

Places to eat - if you like sushi, don't miss the Sushi Den in Denver, but get there early if you don't want to wait! Seriously, the best. We don't eat in Denver much, but like Vinnie said, a lot of good places on the 16th street mall.

We are leaving town on Thursday, or else we would def have you all up for a bbq. I'm pretty sure Cie Grant is going to be in town too.

Have fun at the cheese. I can remember when I was in college and used to see them in little bars - would love to see them at Red Rocks though, that is one epic place.

If you want any more details, you can ask here or get my email. Cheers

HH and Vinnie, thanks for the info. Will definately get to these places. HH, this is going to date me, but when I was in school at UGA, REM was a local bar band in Athens, Ga. :sadwave: Vinnie, wife not going to go. Believe it or not, we have a 6 month old daughter. Cant have wifey carousing around Colorado at a "hippie" festival. She is a great sport and is letting me go with an old friend.:SIB Having babies at 50, what is wrong with me? Actually, its the greatest thing I have ever done. Thanks again.

Happy Hippo looks like to me the good tour guide. When I have freinds coe out here Estes Park is a must and espeically stopping at Lilly Lake sout of Estes--beautiful/peaceful area, walk path around the lake--hit the brewery in Estes Park and the Wheel Bar. Since you are going to Red Rocks no need to tell you about that. Would not reccommend Colo Springs--AF academy nd thier chapel are the only things down there. Depends on how much you want to drive. I like going thru the Eisenhower tunnel and going to Breckenridge--nice town. Riding the Georgetown train? Stay away from downtown late at nite-espeically the dance clubs. HH is right Pearl Street in Boulder is worth the trip-wierdo city-some good bars down there. Coors Berewery tour in Golden--BlackHawk (AmeriStar) for gambling all close. If you got kids you have to go to our World Famous Water Park--if you need tixs let me know I can get you in free. I should be in and out for the next couple weeks-if you want to have a beer let me know-we can hook up. Have a great trip. Denver area is a great place to visit and especially live.

Interests? Vices? Desires? How much time, each day, available for stuff? Want to shop? Play golf? Fish? Hike? Drink? Sightsee? Drive in the mountains? Gamble?

SO much to do in the Denver/Mountains area. It's been awhile for me, but spent many weekends in Denver and the mountains a few years back.
