We have a 2004 Acura TSX with 90k miles on it that hasn't missed a beat and an '09 MDX that we really enjoy. We have been very pleased with Acura.

If its starting one day and then not another, it could very well be a computer or wiring problem... Is there any check engine light on?

the battery and security light come on when it`s cranking and not turning over....i tested the battery and that`s not it....it`s juiced and the terminals have good contact...not corroded...

i`m reading about all kinds of sensors that could cause the problem.......

one thing that i noticed...when i crank it(the times it doesn`t turn over)...if i turn the key to acc(accesories) and let it chime for a few seconds (until it stops)....then start the car from the acc position,it seems to start up....

whether this continues,i have no idea...

i wish i had kept the old cutlass calais i had(with the crank windows and minimal computer involvement)....can`t even get a replacement key nowadays without shelling out hundreds.....

these on board computers f-ck everything up... best thing that ever happened to the car repair industry....screw all the security systems...i stick a club on anyway...let the mofo work a little sawing through the damned thing...

geno...that makes sense...i`m leaning toward getting another vehicle...new or used...not sure...i`m tired of shedding blood, sweat and tears over this money trap...getting "i`m stuck" phone calls....:mj16:

those acuras appeal to me...

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
you drive an acura,d.m.?.....always liked the brand...

Have had several over the years...currently drive a 2006 TSX.

Super comfort, zero issues, had a late 80's Acura Legend sold it after 193,000 no problem miles, just normal maintenance.

The TL 2004-2008 is the most comfort and spacious bang for the buck.

Acura's top of the line RL is a nice boat that I think will be discontinued as the price for the new loaded AWD TL is getting into RL territory.

Older models can be had VERY reasonable.

The 2009 issues of TL & TSX have a "Beak" that reminds me of a toothless red neck grin...

Good luck with whatever you chose

Oh dear lord the comedy.
Wease.... when the car doesn't start.... is the "security" lamp in the instrument cluster BLINKING? If it is BLINKING the security system IS shutting it down and it will not start..... period. If you turn the ignition key to the on position for approx. 10 minutes (you have to wait till the security lamp STOPS flashing) the ole girl will start up and run like a champ.
Like previously mentioned, this is a passcode failure and basically the the ignition switch deal needs replaced.
I can only assume this is your problem. This was a bigtime issue with these cars.

pa...is it an issue of wear on the ignition?...or are the alero ignition systems just innately faulty?....

occasionly,it cuts off after i start it....before i actually start driving... and once in a while, after i start driving....

the car is 10 years old..but it only has 47 k miles on it....and it has every bell and whistle on it that 2000 aleros came with(v-6/leather/audio system/spoiler/sunroof/security/remote trunk/fog lights/power seat etc)....

trying to determine whether i`d be throwing good money after bad....

thanks in advance...

gw.
have lived my entire life in car repair shop
family bussiness.
would like to help but need more info.
what ecactly happens when it doesnt start?
does the engine crank over and over?
or not crank over at all?
read thru the thread and cant tell what u mean by
its cranking and not turning over? to me thats the same thing.
basically, if the engine is cranking over but not starting. 2-most common things is that its not getting spark or fuel.
3rd and least common the engine it could be out of time.
is the check engine lite on with the ingine running?
if this was a security issue the engine would not crank over. the security lite or picture of key would flash and the car wouldnt crank.

sounds like what your saying is its cranking but not starting.

like i said, you need to determine whats lacking.
spark or fuel.

an esasy way for you elimiante fuel is buy a spray can of throttle cleaner at partds store.. when the car acts up. take the air tube off to the throttle body should just be loosen large clamp with flat screwdriver.
spray some throttle cleaner in and try to start.
if it start for a few seconds then stalls. then you know you have a fuel problem. if still no start then you have a spark problem.
a no spark problem most likely be a cam or crank sensor.

anyway i like to hear back about problem with more details. that would help.

firstly, thanks for responding...by cranking i mean when i turn the key it cranks like normal just doesn`t turn over...it`s not a constant problem...it`s hit or miss.....a crap shoot...

it`s some sort of security/ignition issue and i think i finally have it resolved......

one of the weasels stumbled upon a thread on the net that mentioned a similar problem and that the person resolved the issue by starting the car from the "acc" position in the ignition.....

what we do is put the key in the ignition....turn it to acc (accesories)......wait for the chiming to stop(8 chimes or roughly 10 seconds).....and it`s started every damned time....

i have no fricking idea why....

i was within a day or two of blowing 29 grand on an acura tsx....verrry nice low end luxury vehicle with aslll kinds of nifty stuff that comes as standard equipment....

but,if this thing continues to start without giving me heartburn,i`m not blowin` all that bread....

i`m keeping my fingers crossed....two days in a row...roughly 11 starts without as much as a hiccup......

time will tell....

again,thanks for taking the time...:toast:

btw..for a lemon,this mofo`s engine is amazingly powerful....the damned thing is fast...really fast...

""That engine, which is mated to a very alert 4-speed automatic transmission, makes the Alero accelerate quicker from 0 to 60 mph and through the quarter mile than every other car in this test with an automatic transmission. In fact, with a 0-to-60-mph time of 7.8 seconds, the Alero is even faster than a V6 Camry
or Accord.""

hey gw,
hope you have it resolved. im thinking no. but hey ive been wrong before. based on my experience most general motors will not crank with a pass key/security issue.or you shouldve had security or pic. of key flashing when problem occurs.so thinking its just a coincidence so far. guess time willl tell man.intermittent problems are the hardest to repair. the need to recreate the problem helps to solve isue. run tests and solve problem.
when are car is running what can you fix? nothing unless computer has info stored you are screwed. its all guesswork if you cant get it when its not runninhg.
hope it all works out buddy.
ill check back and see whats up next few days.

I guess things could be worse for the wease

Dont drink and drive fellows.

These things can happen in a instant and change your life forever.

My wife has still not recovered from a young girl on a cell phone running a red light causing a
t bone crash. Still has not had back fusion but should be in the next few months finally.

Lawyers are great though.

After going on 4 yrs it makes me wonder how things can change the way you live in a instant.

exact same thing happpened to me(sans the back injury)...luckily...and i mean luckily...i was in a 2000 nissan pathfinder......they were built like armored cars....and i was just up high enough where my body didn`t take the full brunt....

knocked me out...spent a day in the hospital...got screwed on resale value of the pathfinder....

settlement didn`t cover what the pathfinder was worth....

be on the defensive on the roads gents.....fricking cell phones and texting are a real threat to everyone.....
