Tell your friend you couldn't care less about the opinion of some British neoconservative on this. Remind him that America should stand for freedom, not intolerance and bigotry.

Glad I could help. :0008

The most violent terrorist religion on earth is Christianity. And the Numero Uno all time bloodiest terrorist is Pope Urban II who ordered the slaughter of three million civilians. Add to that the Inquisitions, witch trails, and other Christian terrorism, and you've got a record that Osama BinLaden is jealous of.

We should therefore ban Christian edifices everywhere.

About CI
Why Cordoba Initiative?

Towards a Tipping Point
Cordoba Initiative (CI) aims to achieve a tipping point in Muslim-West relations within the next decade, steering the world back to the course of mutual recognition and respect and away from heightened tensions. To do this, we need a coalition of leading individuals and organizations committed to promoting positive interaction between the Muslim World and the West. Cordoba Initiative does just that ? it brings together leaders across the Muslim-West divide to speak out for innovative, proactive, and positive solutions to challenges we share.

What does Cordoba Initiative Do?

Thought

* Advising policy makers and thought leaders on urgent Muslim-West issues
* Bringing new perspectives to familiar debates
* Providing expert knowledge of Islamic Law and other technical subjects for use in the public square

Action

* Building a network of young Muslim leaders to lead the drive for change in future generations
* Responding to Muslim-West crises
* Advocating for human rights, including higher standards for the treatment of women

Outcomes

* Raising the bar of Islamic governance in Muslim-majority countries
* Changing perceptions of the other in both the Muslim World and the West
* Fostering cooperation between governments, civil society organizations, media, academics and business leaders in the Muslim World and the West

Christian Support for the Cordoba House

Julie Clawson recently wrote a compelling article about the Cordoba House in Sojourners, the Christian publication founded by Jim Wallis. This represents just one example of the support we are receiving from the Christian American community. We appreciate the support, and embrace the interconnectivity of all faiths in America. You can read her article, titled, ?Forgiveness, Fear, and the Mosque at Ground Zero,? HERE.

In Christianity

Throughout the New Testament, there are warnings of both false prophets and false Messiahs, and believers are adjured to be vigilant. The following verses (Matthew 7:15?23) are from the Sermon on the Mount:

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

The New Testament addresses the same point of a false prophet predicting correctly and, Jesus predicted the future appearance of false prophets, affirming that they can perform great signs and miracles. The following verses (Matthew 24:10?13;24) are from the Olivet Discourse:

"At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. . . . For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect ? if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time" (Matthew 24:10?13;24 NIV).

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus brought out an ethical application for his disciples using the analogy of false prophets in the Old Testament:

"Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets" (Luke 6:26 NIV).

In the Acts of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas encountered a false prophet named Elymas Bar-Jesus on the island of Cyprus. In Acts 13:6?12, we read:

"They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar‑Jesus, who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, 'You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun.'

"Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord" (Acts of the Apostles 13:6?12, NIV).

This particular story likewise best matches the model found in Deuteronomy 13:1?5. The claim here is that Elymas is trying to turn Sergius Paulus from the "true faith", just like the false prophet described in the preceding verses (although Jews may legitimately argue that to worship Jesus is a form of idolatry in and of itself and likewise departing from the "true faith" -- in this article, the concern is not so much with differences between beliefs as it is with the similarities between the models). This demonstrates further evolution of this model between early Judaism and Christianity. In these verses, we do not see Elymas prophesying as the term is popularly understood, so the Deuteronomy 13:1?5 model seems to fit this scenario best.

The Second Epistle of Peter makes a comparison between false teachers and false prophets and how the former will bring in false teachings, just like the false prophets of old:

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them ? bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping" (2 Peter 2:1?3 NIV).

The First Epistle of John warns those of the Christian faith to test every spirit because of these false prophets:

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus, that spirit is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world" (1 John 4:1?3 NIV).

One popular New Testament false prophet is the false prophet mentioned in the Apocalypse of John. The Apocalypse's false prophet is the agent of the Antichrist, also known as the Beast, and he is ultimately cast with the Antichrist into the lake of "fire and brimstone"(Revelation 19:20 KJV). There is a historical model which suggests that the writer of Revelation was referring to contemporary figures such as Nero and Domitian and not some far-off end times scenario.[2]

I'm sorry I guess it would be too difficult to elaborate.

I thought you were kidding.

Whenever I think of the perfect neo-conservative Paul Wolfowitz pops into my head. He wrote the plan for America after the fall of the Soviets. His plan was to continue to dominate the globe using military force to prevent the threat of another world power emerging. He was part of the think tank "A New American Century". You can find a ton of the members of that think tank associated with Bush 2.

So a NEO-conservative is a "conservative" that supports the Industrial military complex, and wants to rule the earth through force?

That is my definition in a few words. I don't have a problem with conservatives. Just the neo-cons.

Rusty, what about the many "chapers" under consideration for the final makeup of the bible that were weeded out for various reasons by those putting the bible together? I wonder what content and themes were in those pages that the self-appointed christian theologians discarded? From what I've read, some interesting tomes did not make the cut. Personally, it makes me wonder about the document so many hold as "the Gospel" and end-all book for one form of religion (or several, I suppose).

And, I wonder in type what Jesus would think about what the WASPs that created and expanded this country did throughout history did to non-white populations such as the Native "Americans" and Mexican "Americans," for instance?

This Ground Zero thing is a tough one (back to the point). I guess it depends on your own personal view of what this country supposedly is all about. I haven't studied the issue too much, but will before making a judgment.

I'm not a theologian but the ones that where left out were not of Jesus teachings and the time-line(writings) didn't add up to the time of his teachings. You probably could learn more by researching.

As far as the history of the world. One only needs to read the old(and new)Testament to realize wars have waged since the beginning of time.

Look no further than The book of Kings,Samuel,Chronicles, etc. to see the wars that waged sometimes in the kings favor, sometimes not depending on the kings loyalty to GOD.

A little heads-up on being a Christian as it seems by reading this your not,but I could be wrong.

I am not perfect ,I am not free from sin.The human condition and its flesh do things that GOD would disprove. That does NOT mean GOD condemns you if fact Jesus died for our transgressions and sins.Just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean he is a perfect saint. It's quite opposite actually.

The idea that people have some sort of right not to be offended is one of the many silly and pernicious things about these arguments. The other "minor" thing is the constitution.

I'm confused about what your saying here I guess. Who has the right not to be offended?... Because I think you're talking about Muslims because they were pissed about a cartoon about Mohammad. So much so they were going to KILL the artist.

You can't do squat and you are going to offend someone in the "peaceful" religion of Islam.

I'm all for them building Mosques anywhere they can afford the land...just not there. Just like I wouldn't want a Japanese (Buddhist?) in the area of the Arizona memorial.

But that's just me, you might be fine with it.

This religion is rapidly getting out of control. Muslims can murder 200 school children and their parents, shooting kids in the back, in Chechnya and the Muslim world hardly pauses a moment to notice. Let someone draw a cartoon of their "prophet" and they start burning embassies and looking for Europeans to kidnap or murder.

A religion that says you must either convert, kill or enslave those who don't believe as you is not a religion that would embrace freedom. Whether the politically correct like it or not, this is a religion that is anathema to our way of life and the liberties we hold dear.
