The legendary musician's porcelain throne was sold for ?9,500 ($15,500) at a Beatles auction in Liverpool Saturday.

The toilet, painted with blue flowers in and around the bowl, was part of Lennon's Tittenhurst Park home when he bought it in 1969 and was removed three years later by a contractor. Lennon gave him the toilet as a gift and told him to "put some flowers in it." Forty years later, the contractor's son-in-law decided to sell it.

Auction organizer Stephen Bailey, who also owns The Beatles Shop in Liverpool, told the BBC that "we had bids coming in from all over the place but it went to a private overseas buyer." The toilet was originally expected to fetch up to ?1,000 ($1,600).

Guess they wanted it to go along with the rest of their collection:
