Opinions on DirectTV?

I've always had Comcast cable and, for the most part, been happy with it. Unfortunately, the last couple of months I've had my service 'interrupted' 2 or 3 times -- once it was down for 16 hours, then yesterday it was down for 4 hours, so I missed some of the football games. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the new area I live in (I kind of live at the bottom of a hill), or if Comcast is just slipping recently. I've never really had problems with them in the past, so never really looked at switching.

At any rate, I've been doing some research and DirectTV looks to have pretty good packages, and they are actually cheaper. I've also read a lot of reviews from people who say it is much better than Comcast or Dish.

Thoughts?

I have DirectV and cannot complain.

Only thing is when a bad storm comes through you better hope you aint got a good show you want to see coming on.

Usually stays off less than a hour though.

They give alot of freebies if you call and ask for movies and such.

Thanks for the input, OS. Do you mind me asking which package you have? It looks like the cheapest option is 150 channels. I'm not even sure how many channels I have right now. I'll have to look into that. :142smilie

Good info, Scott. Thanks. Less than an hour of downtime I can deal with -- it's this 16-hour BS with Comcast that is a bit much. :sadwave:

choice extra..

more friggin' channels than we can watch..

all locals too...everything you can think of in HD..

I get the NFL package every year..

can't even imagine wagering on the NFL w/out the ability to see every second of every game..

there is absolutely no better way to view tv..

Awesome. Thanks again. Choice Extra is actually the one I was looking at. A better package than what I currently have and cheaper, too. :0074

So do you end up watching regular cable more than the DirectTV? I do like the different sports packages they have, but I'm not sure if I would order those.

We recently got rid of DirecTV. Signal kept going out in bad weather, high winds, or snowfall. Could not get a tech to come to the house until I said I was getting rid of their product....then they were all about sending a tech, giving me a 3 months free, yada-yada-yada.

Good luck if you get it. We had a bad experience with it.

Thanks for all the info, gents.

I'm on the site now and actually looking at a breakdown of all the channels. Not sure why they have so many Christian and Spanish channels in these packages?

Also, the package I'm looking at now has 210 channels, 77 of which are music channels. 77? So 35% of the channels I'm paying for are music?? I feel like I'm missing something here...

Actually, the 77 wasn't including MTV, VH1, etc. With those included it's well into the 80s. :scared

I just checked and Comcast has over 70 music channels total, and also some radio station channels like NPR, etc. :142smilie

I guess I never realized how many there were because I never feel the need to click on the 900 channels. Seriously, who watches the blank channels with nothing but music in the background? Uh, I guess when you're cleaning the house?

I would actally check out dish as they don't have the sunday ticket but, they do have a red zone channel (for $7 a month) that allows you to watch games where a team is in the scoring zone (in real time not just the replay).

Their overall costs are cheaper, you don't need a cable box for each TV and their customer service is much, much better.

Just a thought but, I have had both DTV and Dish and am much happier now.
