...........IN THE 49ERS. THEY ARE MUCH BETTER THAN I GAVE THEM CREDIT FOR.....IF ALEX SMITH CAN RUN THE OFFENSE LIKE HE DID LAST NIGHT, THEY WILL BE A FORCE TO BE RECOGNED WITH IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

I'M HAPPIER ABOUT GETTING A SPLIT LAST NIGHT THEN I EVER HAVE BEEN GETTING A SPLIT......:toast:

Yes, Sf looked good. However, you need to look at the spot. NO was ripe for a week 2 letdown after the fanfare and celebration revolving around their last W over Minn, with ATL on deck. SF was getting their a$$ chewed all week after imploding at Sea. Also, Saints D can be exploited by the run, which plays into the hands of the SF O. Also, wind affected the game last night.

Not saying that SF does not possess a nice D and good ground game, but world beaters they are not. They are who we thought they were coming into the season, not who we saw in week 1.

Totally agree with everything Cie said. Really the only reason I was on SF last night was because of the situation. If that game is played in NO, under different circumstances, NO probably blows them out of the water.

That said, I saw a lot of people playing NO last night because, according to them, "SF sucks." That is not, and has never been, true. Average, maybe, but they don't suck.

Let's see Alex Smith do what he did Monday with some......."can everyone repeat after me?"........CONSISTENCY!!!! I'm not sold after 1 game. SF better not take KC lightly this week! Cassel and Smith are about equal though....both teams have solid running games....both defenses playing well....should be a good game!

I agree here.. The niners need a new qb.. they have a solid team, just one thing weighing them down.. 4 picks in one game.. what a joke...

He is getting real close to Favre like numbers.......Wonder how cum Favre can be the all time interception leader.......and people say he's great...........even a hall of fame lock.......but let some other kid have a game like Favre........and he's a bum.........I can't wait till Favre retires in the middle of this season or gets fired.......he's got nothing for me.......ever since he laid down for Michael Strahan to get the single season sack record......where is the integrety.....where is the heart........where is his respect for the game.......we are even.......I have no respect for him

I like how this thread somehow devolved into a thread about how bad Alex Smith is. :142smilie No mention of how good Frank Gore is, or how good the Niners defense is. Interesting.

As for Smith, yeah, he's not a very good QB. He looked horrible against Seattle, but he looked good against NO (only the first pick was his fault). Hudson's right about his consistency -- he isn't consistent. There are very few spots where I would bet on SF this year because they are an inconsistent team, but that MNF game was a great spot to do so based on all the situational factors.

And if anyone is saying Smith is a good QB now because he had a good game against NO, they're nuts. Then again, I think anyone who bases their decisions on small sample sizes is nuts.
