Report: Moss waived by Vikings
Posted by Judd Zulgad

Last update: November 1, 2010 - 1:59 PM

Evidently Brad Childress had a very good reason for letting Randy Moss stay in the Boston area after Sunday's game. He didn't want him to return to Winter Park -- ever.

The NFL Network is reporting that Moss has been waived by the Vikings a day after the wide receiver gave a rambling statement following a loss to the Patriots. Childress attempted to downplay Moss' comments in his news conference this afternoon but clearly he had seen enough after the wide receiver played four games for the Vikings.

Moss, obtained from the Patriots in early October for a third-round pick in 2011, had only one catch for 8 yards on Sunday and had 13 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns since joining the Vikings.

The end of Moss' second tenure with the Vikings came after Sunday's 28-18 loss at New England.

Moss, who was fined $25,000 last week for failing to cooperate with the media, informed everyone that he would no longer take questions for the rest of the season but instead would ask himself questions and then answer them. Moss then proceeded to praise the Patriots, while criticizing the Vikings for not listening to the tips he gave them about his former team. Moss also took a shot at Childress for not kicking a field goal at the end of the first half and instead going for it on fourth down at the New England 1-yard line. Adrian Peterson lost 2 yards.

Childress disagreed with Moss' assertion that he had not heeded the advice the veteran gave about how New England would approach things. ?I think we did a pretty good job of heeding it, both offensively and defensively," Childress said. "He gave us some windows into how we thought they would end up playing. That?s obviously in his eyes.?

Childress, though, attempted to downplay there were any troubles with Moss when in fact he had set the wheels in motion to get rid of him.

?Do I find [the comments] incendiary?" he said. "I just think he was going back to a spot that he has a lot of affection for and I thought by and large those comments were regarding the people there, the coach there, the ownership there and obviously there?s a fondness in his heart for those guys on that football team. Hey, you?d like to go out there and beat their tails off, nothing he would like better, but at the same time he enjoyed his stay there.?

Report: Vikings waive Randy Moss
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 1, 2010 2:58 PM ET
Randy Moss' bizarre press conference Sunday night wound up being his farewell to Minnesota.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports that the Vikings waived Moss on Monday. At his Monday press conference, Vikings coach Brad Childress mentioned that he allowed Moss to stay back in Boston for a few days before re-joining the team. Looks like he can stay there.

We have no reason to believe the story is not true, but PFT can report via a league source that Moss is not yet aware that he's been released.

Moss would now be subject to leave waiver rules and could be claimed by any team. The Bills would have the first crack at him because they have the worst record.

Lombardi writes that Childress inform the Vikings in a team meeting that Moss was out.

Perhaps there was more to the story of Moss not returning with the team on Sunday night. Maybe Moss' press conference frustrated Childress more than he let on and they say the direction his lack of cooperation with the team was going.

Either way, a Super Bowl hopeful just decided for the second time in a month that Moss was no longer worth all the trouble of keeping.

At least the Patriots got a third-round pick out of it.

Vikings waive Moss just four weeks after acquiring WR in trade

<!-- start left column --><!-- start page:applyDecorator -->The Minnesota Vikings waived wide receiver Randy Moss Monday, NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports.
Moss did not fly back to Minnesota with the team following a 28-18 loss to the New England Patriots Sunday, according to Lombardi.
Moss, acquired by the Vikings in a trade with the New England Patriots following Week 4, appeared in just four games with Minnesota in 2010, catching 13 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns.

The Vikings sent New England a third-round pick in 2011 in exchange for Moss and a seventh-round pick in 2012.
The Vikings originally drafted Moss in 1998 with the 21st pick in the NFL draft.
Moss' much anticipated return to New England as a Viking Sunday proved to be anticlimactic, until the game was over that is.
After catching just one pass for eight yards, Moss was seen embracing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and other ex-teammates.
An emotional Moss then addressed the media -- something he was fined $25,000 for not doing during the week leading up to the game -- about coming back to Gillette Stadium just weeks after having been traded.
"It was hard for me to come here to play, an up and down thing. I was on a roller coaster all week," said Moss, who had one catch for 8 yards for Minnesota. "To see these guys running plays and I know what they are doing, I know what type of feeling they have in the locker room.
"I miss every last helmet in that locker room."
<SCRIPT>(function() { /* define adPath */ nfl.createVideoPlayer({ contentId: "09000d5d81bc92cd", related: "team", adSetting: "1", size: "small", dartURL: "http://ad.doubleclick.net/pfadx/nfl.news/story;s1=story;slot=inpage;url=story;nfl=ad;!category=;kw=;team=min;team=ne;conf=nfc;conf=afc;dvsn=ncn;dvsn=ace;plyr=thomas_brady;plyr=randy_moss;plyr=william_belichick;tile=10;test=;sz=640x360;ord=" + (window.adRandom || nfl.constants.AD_RANDOM) + "?", uniqid: "vid2" });}());</SCRIPT>

While saluting the Patriots performance in a 28-18 win, Moss also appeared to question his own coaching staff's preparation for the game.
"I tried to prepare; tried to talk to the coaches and players about how this game was going to be played ? a couple tendencies here and a couple tendencies there," Moss said. "But the bad part about it, you have six days to prepare for a team and on (Sunday ... they come over to me and say, 'Dang, Moss, you were right about a couple plays and a couple schemes that they were going to run.'
"It hurts as a player that you put a lot of hard work in all week and toward the end of the week, Sunday, when you get on the field, that is when they acknowledge the hard work you have put in all week. So that is a disappointment."
Moss now has 24 hours for a team to claim him off waivers. His salary for the remainder of this season will be paid entirely by the Minnesota Vikings, but he can make additional money if he agrees to a new contract with a new team.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I misread your post. I took it the other way. Sorry, i'm just used to you always being off.

Yes in your mind I probably am. But thats alright.

The Jaguars are the last team he would end up on.
I can see him in a Oakland Uni.

BleedingPurple is probably burning down Childress' house down. What a waste of a 3rd round pick.

Moss is heading to Buffalo! :mj07:

I am fucking pist. I can't blame the coach for this.. I am just pist at the situation.. This fucking team has been nothing but drama for 20 years, dating back to 4 Superbowl losses, to making the worst trade in football history, to always choking in Big games., to drafting Randy Moss, to the loveboat, to all the DWIs, to Brett Favre, and now back to Randy Moss again.. I am sure I missed a few..

I know Randy Moss should not make comments about the coach but Mr. Moss is not getting younger and I would be frustrated with Brad Childress..

I hope this is also the final straw for the Childress era after this season. I know he just got the contract extension last year,

1. It's obvious he has lost this team and Mortenson was talking on Radio last week was talking about how the team was behind Favre and not behind CHildress..

2. His gameplans have sucked before Favre and really suck with an immobile Favre..

3.. I would say that if the VIkes were coached by a good caoch, they would be 5 - 2 instead of 2 - 5.:(

Moss definitely an idiot for his comments but for Childress the truth hurts..

If he is on the waiver he's going to the worst team frrst to take him.

But I will say this. If I had had your number last night I would have called you. When Farvre got hit in the chin, the line man tried to pick him up and stand him up. He did it three times. His offensive line loves him. A lot to be said about that.

Childress is as good as fired. He is a fool. Driving to the airport to get a player. Seriously, could you see any real football coach doing that?

I don't think anyone will try to pick him up, so I think he will go to New England.. I would of taken the phone call. Took my GF out for a few drinks and wings.. ALways makes the Sunday Nights better.. Plus San Diego winning and getting the night pick from Senor Capper really eased the pain.

Of course the O - Line loves him. Everybody can say what they want about Favre but the gunslinger is a warrior and everybody on that team loves him.
