Recently i read the book about Harry and Bess Truman packing their chrysler in 1953 and driving alone from Missouri to New York and Washington, DC. They had just left the Presidency and had no secret service or pension, stayed in motor courts and ate the blue plate specials in restaurants. Harry did have a few minor accidents on the road but paid for the damage on the spot. Now we have Obama taking 3000 people to India at a cost of 200 million dollars per day and renting a 5700 room hotel. Hope and Change has finally come to America .

Is Obama the first president to do so?

Since the answer to your question is no, does that make it right? Don't you want for this type of BS to change? If so, what is a better time than the present?

Well sure, it would be nice if all our politicians learned to spend our money more carefully. I was simply saying that Obama is no exception.

However, bitching about Obama's travel expense is a typical teabagger distraction, a dodge of the serious financial problems. What Obama spends on travel is insignificant to the size of the budget deficit, which can only be addressed by attention to Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and Defense spending.

One politician after another claims to have the answer to the huge deficit, but when pressed for a simple answer - "Where will you make cuts of the necessary magnitude?", the answer, from all of them is the same...duh...duh...duh.

It reminds me of The Wizard of Oz -

"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain".

And the carnie hustler -

"Easy money! Just keep your eye on the pea."

The longer we are distracted by emphasis on insignificant matters, the deeper the hole gets.

I read the article. It says the trip will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. Not hundreds of millions.

What am I missing?

That is why I posted that link, which lists the cost well below the absurd 200 million daily figure, and made the tongue-in-cheek disgraceful comment.

While a 3000 person trip to India seems excessive, it is difficult to imagine that 200 million daily is the cost of this trip. Afghanistan war costs less than that by most accounts. I read on a blog that this was first reported by Drudge and has been pushed by Limbaugh since. Not sure it that is true, but I still find the absurd 200 million figure difficult to believe.

Okay, this is the problem with the Tea Party and the Republicans in general. They outright lie! We had a guy running for Gov. here in Mass. Republican. Nothing but lies! The radio talk shows played them up big time. People started calling other shows repeating these lies as disgraceful things that must be changed. This Republican guy was going to change it! I guess if they repeat a lie enough it becomes truth to them.

I can tell all of you, if you didn't know already, that if you're putting your faith in anything the tea-party leader Michelle Bachmann says, you are proceeding at your own risk. I have no doubt that she was basking in some kind of wine-induced euphoria after her $11 million winning Minnesota representative race was concluded, but believe me on this, the woman is long on talking points and short on specifics.

She's attractive, well-versed on tea party talking points, and coming off an easy win thanks to out of state money, never before seen anywhere, let alone in Central Minnesota.

Seriously, who here considers a short term Central Minnesota congresswoman with no experience other than being a tax attorney in the past to be an expert on how much a Presidential trip will cost? Really? SHE's the expert on this?!?

Good lord - enjoy the moment, conservatives, but use some common sense. Do I need to post some of the outlandish comments she's made in her tenure?

THAT being said, a couple of off the cuff thoughts. I do agree that coming off the heels of the election beating of Tuesday, this can't be looked at very positively from a financial standpoint, and I'd have to say there had to be a better idea than this. BUT, I also think it sends a powerful message - one that I'm sure WARHAWKS would be proud of - that the U.S. leader will come right into the terror zone to deal with issues that are a part of our recent past, current problems, and future planning. Unlike our past President, this one seems to have a good handle on where the real problems can be found. If the cost is remotely true, it's not the best decision, though. But it will take more than Rush Limbaugh quoting Michelle Bachmann to get me to give it any credence. Not to mention Drudge pumping a never before seen India webTV presence. Maybe Al Jazeera would trip your trigger, if Drudge linked it? The Purple Headline was a dead giveaway...
