The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly done this week what everyone expected them to do: Fire Wade Phillips. Bill Jones of CBS-11 in Dallas reports the Cowboys head coach was fired on Monday after his team suffered a humiliating 45-7 loss to the Packers on Sunday Night Football.

This move was expected by many as multiple reports surfaced following the game that Phillips was unlikely to make it through the week. Phillips' certainly deserved this fate after the Cowboys started the season 1-7.

Last week Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Phililps would remain on as head coach for the rest of the season but I'm not sure if others, Jones included, actually believed that at the time. Jones said after the Packers game that there would be people in the organization who suffered the consequences of failing so badly on expectations this year.

Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will take his spot, according to the CBS-11 report. Garrett has been a head coaching candidate at multiple points in his career including interviews with the Broncos and Rams over the last two years. Garrett though is one of the NFL's highest paid assistants and plenty of people expected him to be the next Cowboys head coach.

Phillips ends his Cowboys career with a 34-22 in the regular season record as head coach. This is by far his most disappointing season as he won 13, 9 and 11 games in his first three seasons. He also walks away from Dallas with a 1-2 playoff record with the Cowboys.

Red Jesus should be fired as well. He has full control of the offense(Wade has no say so in it) and they've been horrible. They make mistakes constantly and IMO that's the sign of bad coaching.

this was a mercy firing...everybody saw it coming...they were just torturing phillips by sending him out week after week with a team that just plain quit.....

no doubt,he sucked....but i really hate to see a man strung along like that...

2011 gruden or cowher  :toast:

glta!

Would love that but rumor has it neither one of those coaches want to deal with Jerrys shit...

There are going to be a lot of good coaching jobs open after this year... San Fran, Minny, Dallas, Carolina, San Diego, Houston, maybe a few more like chicago

My point is Cowher and Gruden will have plenty of options.. why come inherit this mess and deal with an owner who wont let you make your own decisions if you dont have to:facepalm:

I live in Dallas and as nice a guy as Wade is, he should have been fired last season. He is a GREAT defensive coordinator, but a HORRIBLE head coach and I think even he knows it.

I'm all for Gruden or Cowher. My brother threw in a wild card and said don't be surprised if the Big Tuna resurfaces in Dallas with more power. I think Jerry has seen what he did with Miami in a short period of time and might give him another shot.

John Fox...?
The everyday names are Griden and Cohwer...here's my Take. Cohwer took 15 yrs to get it done always competitive and got alit out of nothing...Gruden..took a DUNGY built team there and then when the raiders were his...well we know all about that.... Pullin for DUNGY to be lured in...i think its all a prayer tho...John Fox is something that seems like a fit to me. Also...would the new coach have to be familiar with the 3-4 because they are equipped for that rather then a 4-3...
