This line may seem high to the casual observer but not to me. Northern was a good team without getting much from QB Harnish. Just turn Spann loose and wear down the defense, thats been the formula for many of Northern's wins. I don't know how they do it but this MAC team always seems to have a great RB time and time again. Guys like Michael Turner and Garrett Wolfe who rushed for mega yards for Nothern do not have anything on Spann. He's the real deal and will play at the next level.

Back to Harnish. This QB has really developed into a nice player. His accuracy has improved and he is now making big plays with his arm and legs. When a play breaks down, he can scramble for big yardage and keep drives alive. In short, his recent play has turned a good football team into a great team that is very difficult to defend.

If Northern has a weakness it may be in their secondary but I don't think that Dantin is good enough to badly exploit the Huskie secondary.

This opening line is begging for some action on the Rockets. I'm holding back, waiting for some movement but Northern should blow this team out. They are superior in just about every phase of the game and I look for a 20+ point victory for the Huskies.

This team has kept my head above water this season. I have been able to watch almost all their games and I really love the makeup of this team from their coaching on down. They have covered for me again and again. I'm going to ride them hard one more time.

Last week was a freak show of almost impossible losses as I lost both of my big plays and went 3-6 overall. If somebody sees me playing a Western Mich. game of any sort, please take me outside and slap me back to my senses.

Even though I am still shopping for a better number I still feel confident at this number.

Northern Ill -11' ( 10X )

Time to get it back. :0corn

Dantin is out for Toledo and the freshman was en fuego vs. E. Michigan. However, anyone with a pulse can put up numbers vs. EMU.

Why has the line dropped from 12 to 10.5? Both teams are undefeated in the MAC. Tough game to wager as I don't follow these teams, but did notice Toledo has been destroyed a few times this year.

Good catch DD. I know that they like Owens and think he's got a future. Last time I checked they said Dantin took a good shot on his left shoulder and his status was unkown. I never checked back in so thanks for bringing that info. Maybe Owens will be a step up, but he couldn't beat out Dantin to be the starter. I guess we'll find out soon.

I don't really think that the QB play of Toledo will be too effective no matter who's back there. Northern knows that they must try to lock down Toledo's Page who is a serious play maker when he gets his touches. In most of the games I saw, Northern was willing to give up some underneath pitch and catch stuff but they were effective in not getting beat deep which Toledo likes to do.

You are quite correct about Eastern. The Toledo 2nd team or scout team was probably much more of a challenge for Owens at practice.

I thought that the opening line was a bit odd and was set to attract some Toledo money and they got it. I was hoping to get this at 10 all along so I just spent the dime at the first chance. It may fall a bit more so anything under ten would be worth a few more bucks.

As far as the total, I would lean over but I just don't know. The weather is projected to be near perfect so the conditions will be great. One thing that you must consider iwith N Illinois is that they usually keep the clock moving when pounding Spann on the ground. They sometimes dominate a game but don't always put big numbers on the board. I'm sitting this total out though, too many variables for me to consider. 50 seems like a pretty tight number.

I would like to see if Hawkeye has a move on this game.

OK
Northern Illinois has 21 seniors playing in their last game at Huskie Stadium against Toledo on Tuesday and 15 of those seniors are Illinois natives. Of the 21 seniors, 13 are regular starters.

Good information. However, no mention of the Toledo defense. They have only given up more than 24 points twice and that was to Arizona and Boise St.

No doubt that NI is the better team. But 10 points is alot in this matchup and I think turnovers will figure into whether NI covers the generous spread.

GL to all.

Fair enough. The Mac has changed some this year. This the league of high scoring shootouts has begun to place a greater emphisis on defense. Often known as the cradle of QB's for their ability to place many QB's in the NFL with guys Like Big Ben, Charlie Fry and more recently Dan LeFevour and and a few others, The MAC's best days may be behind . I've seen some really, really bad QB play in this conference this year and the defenses have closed the gap.

Toledo is great in one dept.and that is take-aways. But Nothern is very good with the ball. Spann is rock solid and Harnish leads the league in passing efficiency. I was impressed with their win at Ohio but Boo Jackson is a turnover machine and tossed 3 picks that game. So I am not worried a lot about their ability to force turnovers tonight. They do have a couple of the leagues top sack guys but they do face a much better O line tonight.

I really think that Toledo's greatest asset has been it's league schedule. To this point, the Rockets have dodged Temple and NIU, the leagues top two teams. It gets a whole lot tougher for them tonight.

Hawk: I was the MAC's bitch last week. I'm still hurtin' from that one.

Thanks guys, Good luck

Better get on W. Mich..They crush Eastern this weekend..:142smilie

Wise guy huh ?? :mj07: They should but don't discount the fact that something absurd may well happen that affects the spread.

Turk, I saw that too on some online publication. Think its a major factor too.

Thanks Bert but I learned last week that bad luck trumps good write-ups every time. Heading out to have dinner and drinks with a friend then watch the game with interest. Don't despair if it looks touchy at the half. Northern has been wearing teams down in the 2nd half all season long.

Line has moved back up FWIW

No, I'm being serious...One of my system/stratagies in cappin is to back 'em the next time when they didnt cover for you the last time....Like the Boilers, Az Cats, Cocks, Viqueens & Texans..Usually the lines makers adjust to much...:0corn
