Ole Miss strength defensively are their DTs. The secondary is not good in coverage. One of their safeties is an in-the-box player, and poor techinique would indicate neither CB appears to have longterm experience at the position. LSU has 3 5* WRs, although Russel Shpard has alot to improve on. The outside guys are long and fast, and should present huge mismatch concerns for the Ole Miss CBs. Of course, LSU has not passed the football with any consistency in any game this year including against lowly UL-M last week, so it is difficult to envision any difference today
If things go as they have all season, LSU will run, and Ole Miss will overcommit to the run. As mentioned previously, LSU will not liekly be able to exploit this. It should also be noted that the LSU ground game is not game-breaking (with the exception of the jet sweep to Shepard that has produced 4 50yard runs this year), as the home run threats at RB are the young guys. Ridley is a masher with nice balance and vision, but no breakaway potential.
LSU special teams have been great and the defense has been outstanding in every half of football except for the 2h @ Aub and the 2h vs UNC, in a game that LSU checked out of mentally with a 20 lead against a depleted lineup. That said, Miss has a game breaker in Masoli, and we all saw what Newton did to LSU.
I want to play Ole Miss, but am concerned about senior day. The emotional leader of the team is Kelvin Sheperd, and this is his final game in Tiger Stadium. Were this game at night, I would lay off for sure. Under also looks appealing to me....
LSU 27-17
I would appreciate other thoughts on this game...
