Any word on the validity of the rumor that the recent 'drug house' arrest led to team-wide drug screening resulting in positive tests for several starters?

Would hope that it wouldn't be true, but might explain some things. For whatever reason, they are just not quite the team they were last year. Hawkeye's explanation was a good one tho.

Dang, had Mizzou on my office pool, but haven't laid a bet on them yet. Wonder what the line will be now if it turns out to be true?

I'm hearing anywhere from 10-20 players either suspended or simply kicked off the team. Many starters included. If you can still get Mizzou anywhere at -1, do it.

You cruise the Rivals boards too, huh? Supposed to be some sort of press conference or release today; but as far as I know nothing yet.
Hit Missouri for 3 dimes @ Betphoenix about an hour ago, but line is no longer up. Figure everyone has taken it down by now....

If this is all that comes out of all these rumors, I've got to look hard at buying back my Missouri bet. 10 AM presser tomorrow; more news then??

HawkeyeReport.com

IOWA CITY, IA - Sophomore running back Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the University of Iowa. And, sophomore running back Adam Robinson will not be part of the Hawkeye team that makes the trip to Arizona for the Insight Bowl. The announcement was made today by Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

"Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career. We wish him the best of success in the future," said Ferentz.

"While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January."

Hampton, a 5-9, 210-pounder from Indianapolis, IN, has been plagued by injury problems during his three years at Iowa. He has rushed for 577 yards and scored eight touchdowns as a Hawkeye. He was injured in the Arizona game earlier this season and was lost for the season following surgery.

Robinson, a 5-9, 205-pound back from Des Moines, IA, led the team in rushing with 941 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

EDITOR'S NOTE - There will be no additional comments tonight regarding this release. Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz and Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta will hold a press conference tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10 a.m. to answer questions. The press conference will be held in the Player's Auditorium of the Hayden Fry football complex.

Iowa's football team may be in very hot water. A ton of rumors and reports have been circulating today, but as of this evening things looked to have died down. Here's everything we know for sure (as of 7:41 EST).

1) In a press release today, Iowa announced that running back Jewel Hampton is transferring and fellow RB Adam Robinson is off the team for the bowl game.

2) A third RB, Brandon Wegher, is also transferring (though it's unknown whether or not this is related).

3) There will be a press conference at 10 AM (Central Time) tomorrow featuring both Coach Kirk Ferentz and Athletic Director Gary Barta.

4) Senior wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was arrested last Tuesday in a drug bust and suspended from the team.

5) Unconfirmed rumors have been circulating all over twitter that between seven and 20 Iowa players will be suspended due to failing drug tests. Again, this is unconfirmed and is mere rumor.

6) Las Vegas Sports Books have all removed the Insight Bowl from the board, effectively halting all gambling until further information surfaces.

We'll know a lot tomorrow after the press conference. Due to the fact that both Ferentz and Barta are appearing, it seems a safe bet that there will be some big news. This is the twitter account I'd recommend you follow?@MarcMorehouse?as he's had the most accurate and updated information I've found.

Obviously, there will be more to come. Stay tuned.

Currently watching the press conference from Iowa City on the internet.

NO NEW SUSPENSIONS ANNOUNCED.

Everyone is supposed to be leaving for Arizona in a few days but no updates on any injured players statuses for the game.
Figure the line will be back up later today and I can't imagine it will be any different than the Missouri -1 it was before all this crap came down over the last day or so.
