Hey guys need some help.

I am in need of a new laptop. I've had a dell laptop for six years with no problems. It's now old and slow. It takes forever to boot up whn I turn it on. In the morning when I turn it on I feed the dogs and get the coffee pot running and take a leak and it still is booting up. I swear it takes like 4 minutes.

Anyways, do the Apple computers run windows programs? Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point...

Can I read PDF files on the mac???

Also can the macs run Poker Stars and Full Tilt software without any problems?

Thanks

Mac will run anything you need.

If you can get 6 years out of a product, though, why would you want to spend more?

I am the only person that I know that has had a dell laptop for six years with no problems. Most of my friends and family all have had problems with Dells.

I just don't hear people complaining about MAC's.

I get what your saying about price. Mac's are pricey. Very pricey from what I can see....

i recommend a windows 7 laptop

you can get a quad core processor + 4gb of RAM
for like half a macbook

Newegg.com

but if you think macs make you look sexier, get a mac

the sexier the mac color, the sexier and faster feeling computing experience

Add me to your list and I know several others.

I just bought an Asus laptop to replace my Dell from just over 5 years ago. No problems, just got old.

There's a difference in electronics getting old and having real problems with them. Several of my friends who are very hard-core users (developers) replace their Macs every 18 months due to wearing them out and them not working well any longer.

I am a power user of laptops but not as much as others.

I think Apple has "better" hardware but not justified by the cost. You also have to include the "sheep mentality" of humans when listening to them about their Macs.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
my cheap Dell I've had for almost 5 years too. It's running great! I re-installed the operating system few months ago for the first time (geeks recommend doing that every 2 years) and after that it started up and shut down almost as fast as a Mac! But after I loaded in a bunch of programs, it slow again...

I dare anyone to show me a PC that starts and shuts down as fast as a Mac. Yes, you are paying a premium for the Mac name, but also much more than the name. For one thing, flexing is a big problem with laptops and Apple only makes laptops bodies carved out of a single slab of aluminum. They do lots of solid overkill like that.

"Consumer Reports", who are famously independent and certainly hate to praise anything that costs more than competitors always rate Mac among the highest. And the Apple customer/tech service is so much better than everyone else, there is simply no comparison there. Apple is the only computer company that has no overseas call centers and dudes with funny accents, for example.

I've been eyeballing this very impressive Dell a friend recently got.

I just don't think I wanna spend those extra dollars for the Mac...

How old are they? How often do people click on shady links?

Terry - check out Asus for better constructed machines. Flex is an issue with most laptop users because they are getting up and down off their couch holding it with one hand. This can really damage the guts of a computer over time.

The MacBook commercial that shows the guy setting it down flat with two fingers then opening it with one finger is subtle and very impressive.

This is the computer I currently have, fwiw

The only thing I would change is to get a smaller screen.

The keyboard offset threw me off at first due to it having a number keypad. I don't see the point in these and this would be eliminated with a smaller laptop. Now that I've had it for a few months, though, the offset doesn't bother me any longer.
