been hearing it's the most expensive tickets to a sporting event since Tiger's 1st Masters. All kinds of rumors going around about brokers not having tickets they sold... first story I've heard first hand. Pretty damned ridiculous. Figured I'd share. My ticket was a gift so I'm not selling... but If I paid $700 for one (which most people that acted fast right after the SECC and didn't wait for "prices to go down" paid $600-700) I would definitely be selling mine if someone offered me $5000. My seat in sec 139 had a going value of $5900 on stubhub before they took the game off the website

Landed today in Phoenix. If you don't know... the happening place is at the Waterfront in Scottsdale. They have a great setup, and the entire area (block after block) is very nice. This is my first trip to AZ, but it's extremely clean and very nice.
Now... here is the ticket situation as explained to a broker to me today. Yesterday, I received an email from the outfit that sold me my 4 tix for 809 / section 125. They informed me that I could relist my tix and probably double or triple my money. I ignored it at first, but late last night ... my wife and I decided to place 2 of the tix at a ridiculous price knowing that they wouldn't sell. We were wrong. When I walked off the plane in Denver, my phone went off... and stated that someone took my offer...and I needed to fedex the enclosed envelope asap. I called them and told them my situation... and they said they had feet on the ground in PHX and would meet me. When we met at the Waterfront, there were actually 2 camera crews who approached us wanting to interview us on the ticket situation. There are signs in businesses offering BIG money for tickets. After stepping away from the crowd, the guy told me that that last year he couldn't give away the bammer Tx game. He stated the biggest game ever was the TX USC game.. and they were going around 1500-2000 per ticket... yet this game is shattering that record. I showed him the tix, and gave him our paypal account. He called and told them to send the money... and then he pulled out his laptop and we logged on to our email, and voila! .. there it was.
I asked him what was going on? He says that the word on the street is that Phil Knight got concerned that AU was going to have the bigger crowd... and to him ...it's not just AU vs. O... It's under armor vs. nike. ...and the word is that he is bank rolling a lot of these "buy back ticket offers" in order to get the O people in the game. He said at first that the majority of the sales at first were Auburn people... but the last few weeks (when the tix starting shooting up) that 3/4 of the buyers are ducks. He is aware of the backlash that many brokers are facing... but when the word hit the streets that Phil was pulling out his wallet, many brokers started pulling back their offer. fwiw... he (big cornhusker fan) thinks that AU wins easily.
It's crazy. Absolutely crazy.
I hope you aren't mad Teh Bass.... b/c I know you are looking. But i just flew my wife and daughter out here too... and they were like ..."take the money!"
Please keep this here. We need AU fans. But what turned out to be a quasi joke... turned into me collecting 2 1/2 times more money than I paid ...and I still have a pair. (It might be real interesting Monday night... when the 2 people sitting beside me have no idea that I've had their tickets on my kitchen counter for a month) 2 tickets for 10k? .... that's serious.
