In Scily Mt Etna erupts sending a fiery show all over Scily... Calabria and southern Italy . Hot lava was seen flowing down the mountain . I bring this up because a few years back when I revisited Reggio on the mainland if you look across the Straits of Messina you can see Mt Etna and its white smoke still active. When we visited Tearomina on the island you can see Mt Etna over looking the valley. I have to babysit but will come back to Etna and my story.. sorry

Back from babysitting ... Taramino is a big time tourist attraction for Sicily Beautiful city on the Mediterrian overlooking Reggio { mainland Italy and Mt Etna next door. We ate lunch there when I was staying with my cousins in Reggio. The returants in Tararmini have German menu's at every returant Its a big time resort for German vacation I would say almost half the tourists were from Germany . But my cousins in Reggio told me the Italians charge the German tourist a little bit more then what they charge the avg Tourists on the menu's . He says its a small " payback " for Italy being an axis power before Mussolina and almost half of Germany excapes to Taormino for a few weeks in the summer . The beaches are beautiful and the water is Cyrstal clear blue. Anyway my daughter and myself had a great day in Sicily and visited my mothers 1st cousins in Messina. Messina streets were so wide compared to Reggio across the straits... That was due to the city engineer of Messina who graduated up north and when the famous Tidal wave wiped out Reggio and hit Messina.. he designed and remade all the streets wide . Reggio has all those narrow streets that only one car can go thru. Anyway my daughter drove the ferry for a few minutes because the captain of the ferry was dating one of my cousins . But through out the day you could see Mt Etna and its white smoke coming out of it. I saw in todays paper is starting to erupt again . and it reminded me of my time in Sicily . All my cousins knew I was Joe D's son because when he was there in 1944 and US Army truck pulled up next to the house where my mothers aunt and cousins lived he delivered fresh vegetables and food dough beer etc Imagine years later I arrive and the whole neighborhood comes out to thank me . This in 1969 many years after WW2 . BUt my mothers cousin had a celebrity in the family An american officer from US 5th Army un loaded the entire truck of supplies that the Italians didn't have . Fortunato who later became a captain in the Carabneri was 5 years old and always told the story of his wife's American 1st cousins. He just passed away a few years ago ... Sorry for this long boring ass story but when I read Etna was eruting yesterday I thought of my time in Reggi and Taramino .
