Movie of the Day: Number One (1969)- Charlton Heston plays a washed-up NFL quarterback who struggles in the transition from being an athlete to the next chapter in his life.

Jessica Walter, Diana Muldaur, Bruce Dern are in this movie. Lot of the real-life New Orleans Saints are also in the movie (one of them is Cooper Kupp’s grandfather)

If I said this was a good movie, I’d be lying; read once that when he was president of the Screen Actors’ Guild, Charlton Heston had the movie taken out of circulation- he didn’t like it much, but it does tell the story of how tough it can be for a pro athlete to move on in his life.

— New Mexico Lobos are 4-0 at home for the first time since 1962.

— Good news: Vanderbilt’s football team is in the top 10 for the first time since 1941.
Bad news: big $$$ teams are going to be coming after coach Clark Lea, much like they did for James Franklin back when he was winning at Vanderbilt.

— Los Angeles Angels only gave their new manager Kurt Suzuki a one-year contract; there is speculation that there may not be a 2027 season because of labor issues, so if that happens, will be interesting to see if they take care of Suzuki for 2027, or let him go elsewhere.

— RIP to the great actress June Lockhart, who passed away over the weekend, at age 100.
Best known for starring roles in Lassie and Lost In Space, she also appeared in one of the better episodes of Magnum PI in that show’s first season, with Jose Ferrer. Overall, she had 179 acting credits.
RIP, ma’am.
