Caldera could give Jacobson a winner at Santa Anita
Track: Santa Anita Park
Race: Race 5
Friday's 5th race (3:03pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is a $56,000 Maiden Special event for 4-year-olds and up traveling nine furlongs on the turf course (rail at 30 feet).
#4 Caldera (3-1) rallied to finish 3rd and 2nd in his last two turf tries and the grinding shipper looks live for Jacobson. He sports four local works for this and should appreciate this trip.
#5 Dylan Ward (5-2) loves to hit the board (11-0-6-3). He returns as a first time gelding for D'Amato and should have every chance to earn his diploma under Gonzalez..
#7 Big Discovery (5-1) finished 2nd or 3rd in 6 of his 7 career starts and today's rider Bejarano rode him to a couple of place finishes at Del Mar last summer.
#1 El Gran Turismo (8-1) took money and ran last in his downhill debut Oct 16. The first time gelding stretches out and dam has tossed four turf winners.
The Plays:
Win #4 Caldera
Exacta Box 4-5 ($12)
Exacta 4-5/1-7 ($12)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair Grounds Maiden Special - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $40,000 Class Rating: 65
Race #9
Post: 5:21pm
#9 JACKIE EMS PAL (ML=7/2)
JACKIE EMS PAL - I think the shorter trip will help this filly stay the trip. My comrades and I have made cash playing thoroughbreds with this type of speed. Follow my advice and do the same. Filly was in versus 'open company' on Dec 31st and should find this group easier to deal with.
Vulnerable Contenders: #1 TWO BAD ATTITUDES (ML=5/2), #2 OSCAR'S PRIDE (ML=9/2), #3 FORGOTTEN (ML=8/1),
TWO BAD ATTITUDES - You should normally bet against morning-line choices that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. OSCAR'S PRIDE - Front wraps were added last out. Doesn't bode well for today's race. Granted the last race was nice, finishing second. The lack of any recent activity raises some concerns though. Finished second in her most recent race with a common speed figure. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. FORGOTTEN - M/L odds of 8/1 make this horse a pass by my standards.
Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - JACKIE EMS PAL - One can conclude, given she finished out of the money at Fair Grounds last out, that this horse did not like the off track. I expect a pretty big improvement with better footing today.
STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Play #9 JACKIE EMS PAL to win if you can get odds of 1/1 or more
