My take is that the parents should pay for the High School. After she is 18 and going to college that is another story but how do the parents get away with not paying for high school?

I thought the same thing when I read the headline I defended her, then as I read into it further It's a Private school and her parents have no obligations to pay for anything else for her, legally speaking unless she has a college account in her name only, then she gets it for college, I hope she learned a valuable lesson in life don't cut off the hand that feeds you

Get away with not paying tuition for a daughter who moved out and will not obey their rules??? That's nuts. Unfortunately, the coddling of teens who act out is far too common these days. If you want to live in my house, then you will abide by my curfews and rules. If the girl doesn't want to follow the rules, let her go to public school.

I had the misfortune or pleasure of practicing Family Law for 10+ years and I was shocked by the lawsuit and in fact thought it would be ruled frivolous and the parents awarded their fees against the daughter, attorney who filed it and Friend's dad who is paying for the suit, but I thought the Judge handled it well.

First, the daughter is 18, if she is within her ADULT rights to move out, she is on her own. It amazes me the audacity to say I am old enough to decide where I live, but you have to pay for my school and college.

Second, even if she was a minor, the Judge handled that well, by the following slippery slope argument, where does it stop - school, an xbox, a TV, a different dinner, not enough things to eat. They are the parents and as long as there is no neglect or abuse, it is their decision how to proceed with their daughter.

Third, on a side note, I would if it was my kid, brat spoiled bitch or not, continue to pay for her high school, but after that later days kiddo.

I feel bad for all involved and think the friend's Dad is an asshole for organizing this whole ordeal.

I can't believe I am in agreement with Cie and hedman, except I would not pay for her private school if she moved out the way the parents said it happened

How did she get in Private School? She didn't just walk up to the school one day and apply. Her parents had to have approved it. Just because the kids a brat does not release them of their obligations.

So once you sign your kid up for something they are entitled to it, no matter what. Hell, on Tuesday my 6 year old was being a brat to her little sister so she missed her ballet and hiphop class, tough shit. Punishment. Next step if she keeps acting a fool is she is taken out of it completely.

Private school is not a right. They were doing her something they wanted to, because it is how they wanted to raise her, well she now doesnt want to live by their rules. Go to public school or get your buddies pops to foot that bill, probably less then the $11k he has already dropped making you and your parents look like asses.

Oh here is another fucking idea, go home and fucking suck it up.

Good grief, man. I find your comment disturbing. This 18yo entitled brat moved out because her parents are enforcing a curfew and requiring her to help with chores. By your "logic", the parents should also keep paying for her auto insurance, cell phone and gym membership?

I am like Hedman. My kids are 6 and 8. If one acts like a dick, he misses practice. If he kept it up, I'd yank him from the team. It is my responsibility to prepare them for the real world, and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Why didn't her parents pull her out of private school? Last I knew the kid doesn't get to sign up for private school by herself. If she messed up, while under 18, then the parents have to swallow it.
This kid might have other issues going on if she is as bad as you guys seem to think she is.
Over 18, yes she pays her own way. But under 18 the parents pay the bill.

She is a high school student who moved out of her family's home. Outside of instances of abuse or neglect in the home, which would have come out in court, she is wrong. When she walked out of the door, she lost any privileges.

Accountability must be taught unless you plan on raising losers and misfits

I am simply talking about the Private School bill. How do you figure a minor is responsible to pay that? Maybe I am missing something here.
