First of all thank you to 1Vice for putting up the contest. For an entry fee of a $250 deposit that you still got to wager with AND got all the bonuses that come with it this is a generous contest.

We are coming down the stretch run with 8 days of play left. Things are shaping up to be a 5 horse race for 4 paying spots. I would be the one on the outside looking in thanks to the crash and burn job I did yesterday.

Each wager is 1000 points and right now 4000 points separate first and fifth :scared

This is NOT to say the guys in 6th-10th are out of the running by any means, but some of them have used up most of their picks already and are definitely gonna need some help to move up.

There were 28 entries and going into this last week 15 players are showing a profit! Pretty solid field when over half the players in a handicapping contest are winning players. One has to wonder why 1Vice continues to solicit players from MadJacks when all we do is win! :00hour

What I find very impressive is that typically in a contest like this if someone starts out on a losing streak they sometimes just give up. I mean 200 plays over 3 months is a lot to devote to a contest that you dig a big hole in right out of the gate. Our top two players right now were both in that spot early on and now are the odds on favorite to win the thing.

ImFeklhr was -5600 after three weeks and currently holds the first spot at +17169. Magic01 is only 143 points behind him going into today's action and after three weeks was -11800, a swing of 28,000 points since then

Stay tuned to see if I can go 0-14 in my last 14 picks, see who will win this great battle for the top spot or if someone can pull off a hail Mary and come from way behind to pull off an upset.

Great contest that happens again just after the All-Star break. I highly recommend you getting in and joining in the fun next time around!

Good luck to those still in it (but how about losing a game here and there and giving me a shot at this thing?)

In any event, if anyone cares I'll post updates here as we head down the stretch run.

Looks like Sunday is in the books since nobody near the top has a play pending on the Sunday night game (though they could still get one in) and that brings to a close the 11th of 12 weeks on the contest.

I want to clarify something I posted earlier. While it looks like a 5 player race for the money spot, there is still enough plays left for several other players and they could get in the money by going on a sick run to end the contest.

As it sits the top 5 are still fairly tight.
Magic 01 is our leader with 118461 points
ImFeklhr is now second with 116169 points
I'm currently 3rd with 115378
Oakas is 4th with 115375 (yep, 3 points out of 3rd)
EZMoney is 5th with 113688

The scores drop down to the 106000/105000 range after that, but considering losing plays cost you points it really is closer than it appears.

One week to go out of a twelve week contest and virtually everything is still up for grabs. A three or four game streak either way for anyone can change things drastically.

Penguin: Ever since you opened your big mouth I've been on a losing streak.

Agreed it's been a really fun contest, and one I won't hesitate to join up with for the second half of the season.

200 picks is a lot, and takes a bit of time to participate in this marathon, but it actually helps you pay attention to the entire league for weeks at a time, which I feel helps in personal wagers I've made.

I usually only have that affect on myself

Will be interesting to see how that strategy plays out for the guys in the top 5. I think it comes down to more than just handicapping from here on out. May have to make plays you don't necessarily like based on what happens to others plays.

Should be a fun week. Unless I go 0-10 on the way out

An interesting Monday night of action changes the standings a bit.

Magic01 is still in the lead thanks to the inability of the Cleveland Indians to do anything right late in a game. One of the first gambling lessons I learned was that you never ask a bad team to do something good for you. Apparently Magic01 took this a step further and found out you can count on said team to do everything wrong when you need them to.

Not only does the Tribe blow a chance to plate the go ahead run in the 8th with a guy in scoring position and nobody out, they give up two runs in the 10th and then manage to have a runner fall going around third in the bottom of the inning to make sure they lose by two. This is important as Magic01 cashes not only the moneyline but the runline as well. What could have easily been a 2000 point loss turns into a 1535 point win. Not a bad swing of 3500+ points!

ImFeklhr sat the night out.

I continue to think the Yankees don't suck and continue not to learn my lesson. The Phillies bail me out as I am running out of plays and they get me a split on the night. Whatever the point total is I don't win this contest by I am sure I can blame on my inability to handicap a couple teams correctly. I can assure you the Yankees will not be among any of my last 8 plays.

Oakas has been the king of totals this contest and splits a pair of plays last night to keep the 3-4-5 spots really, REALLY tight.

With 6 days of play left to go spots everything is very much still up for grabs but especially the 2-3-4-5 spots with 2481 separating the 4 spots.

The tough truth is only 4 spots get paid so a very deserving contestant is going to get shut out of the money and probably be a very, VERY few points.

Let's see how Tuesday plays out.....

Each day we get closer to the finish things get closer and closer, at least among the 2-5 spots.

Magic01 may just indeed be Magic as he is starting to distance himself from the field with two more wins last night.

I broke the cardinal rule about asking a bad team to do something good for you. Despite their record, the Pirates are a bad team and will finish below .500 again this year.

ImFeklhr didn't sit out like he thought about doing and dropped a couple of decisions.

Oakas continues to be king of the over/under, well at least the over as he pegs two more winners in the late action last night there were over early on in the action.

Magic01 now has a 2400+ point lead over second place with time running out.

Remember 4 spots pay and right now there is only 2300 points separating second from fifth.

It's times like this you think about that +150 dog who dropped a game in the 9th inning costing you a swing of 2500 points that will absolutely make a difference in the standings when this is all said and done.

Here is how it look heading into Wednesdays action:
Magic01 118477
Oakas 116045
Penguinfan 114338
ImFeklhr 114169
EzMoney 113688

Everyone has enough picks left that a three or four game streak either way could shake up the entire top 5 with the exception of EzMoney and myself.

A lot can (and probably will) still happen in this great contest. Stay tuned!

Not much time for today's update which is a shame because there were a lot of moving parts to the action last night.

Magic01 still continues to post winners and lead the contest.

Oakas is making a big push to get OVER him with a couple more winners last night.

ImFeklhr got his groove back going 4-0 last night.

I continue to tread water floundering opportunity after opportunity to put away 4th place.

EZmoney continues to sit on the sidelines not doubt wanting to see where everyone else lands before making his last pick.

The battle is now between three players for the top three spots and it could go to anyone at this point:

Magic01 118907
Oakas 118048
ImFeklhr 117334

Myself and EZmoney will see who survives for the last money spot as we each have one pick left to make:

Penguinfan 114505
EZMoney 113688

Let's see where Thursday takes us!
