32 Teams - 1 Trophy
- - The Journey is the Reward. That's the whole story.

Houston(-8')(-115) over Indianapolis (1*)
- - Has to be my top play of the day.

Detroit(+1')(-115) over Tampa Bay (1*)
- - They will carry my cash today.

St. Louis(+4)(-115) over Philadelphia (1*)
- - With a short window for Reid, Vick & Co. to bond all the new pieces together with substance and chemistry for "playing fast", IMO it's asking a lot in a raucous dome for a weak offensive line to furnish a strong glue, and all the rest to be resilient and superior.

Chicago(+1') over Atlanta (1*)
- - IMO the talk coming from inside and outside (including from some dyed-in-the-wool skeptics) of Halas Hall has had a positive slant from the get go, and now the Bears whole season looks to come down to whether they can get untracked during their 3 game start.

Washington(+2) over New York Giants (1*)
- - Washington will be right there with their recent nemesis from start to finish in this one.

Cleveland(-6') over Cincinnati (1*)
- - FWIW, I know this is too many points and therefore a dumb play, but it doesn't mean it's the wrong side, and at least it's sharper than laying 20' points with the Gophers yesterday.

That's alot
No doubt :scared

ODDS and ENDS: I forgot to mention in my initial post a suspicion or theory that the Overs would easily surpass the Unders for the rest of Week 1, contrary to the conventional wisdom on opening day that defenses have the upper hand . . . Tying in with the Overs angle, Chris Collinsworth noted early on Thursday that the defenders were not used to 60 minutes of action and were tiring from being chased all over the field . . . The home team defense has been on the field A LOT in sweltering Tampa, so a big advantage to Detroit trying to break the mold of the same old Lions . . . Philadelphia is a better team than St. Louis today, but the Rams are playing hard enough to catch a break if Philadelphia helps them out, but I'm not now expecting it to play out that way . . . The Clowns could not have started out more uninspired at every position, but they've found something compared to that piss poor and hard to explain start . . . No way do I see Arizona under HC Whisenhut coming out of the gates like the Brownies did, so it's . . .

Arizona(-6') over Carolina (1*)
- - Kolb just needs to be good enough to keep up with all the newness on the other side.

Dallas(-3)(+100) over San Francisco (1.5*)
- - San Fran off an emotional divisional debut, getting a road-tested visitor with a very bad taste in its mouth all week long, means I won't be waiting to see if the banged up Dallas secondary can some how pull its weight.

- - In 10 years of posting at Madjacks I've never posted a play and called it my Game of the Year. But I keep looking at this game, doing more due diligence, looking some more, and there is no getting away from the fact that, simply put, the Lions will carry my GOY cash this Sunday in Detroit.

There are solid arguments for letting Detroit and Dallas be my only plays today, but that was never likely to be the case. In fact, I think I can can find ANGLES and INFORMATION to take a side (or total) on more than half the games this week . . . While I hope I end up more selective than that, my usual standard is merely to try and duck away from games I have no real feel for (and also be extremely circumspect when what I'm seeing isn't working) a/k/a MONEY MANAGEMENT, which usually eliminates most of the card in pro and a huge proportion in college, but not today . . . As always, what to do, what to do . . . Anyway, one game for now on which my opinion has not wavered after much capping during the week . . .

Indianapolis(+2)(-105) over Cleveland (1*)
- - Last week the Colts were expected to be manhandled on the road in their division, while Cleveland was punchless in a very big spot. The Colts have the playmakers, matchups and intangibles in this one to not need the further motivation of being made the home dog.

Carolina(-3)(-125) over Jacksonville (1*)
- - Ron Rivera earns a Gatorade shower from his team.

Arizona(-3) over Seattle (1*)
- - Arizona wins the West, and does it by winning in the division and on the road.

Buffalo(+7) over New England (1*)
- - To quote Jim Zabel, this shapes up as, "a wild and wooly affair."

Miami(-1)(-118) over Cleveland (1*)
- - Miami is as desperate as any team can be to not see their season sink at the expense of of a team that is not as good as them at this point in Week 3, IMO, and I've been surprised to witness Henne showing an upgrade in his early play.

Yesterday was my first winning week in college ball in about six weeks, which means I should probably tread lightly and play with my head on a swivel this week in the NFL.

Dallas(-11) over Seattle (1*)
- - The Cowboys coming off possibly their first bona fide embarrassment under the Jason Garrett regime suggests to me a strong effort for 60 minutes back in Dallas against a team not noted for stepping up on the road.

Miami(+4)(-115) over Kansas City (1*)
- - HC Tony Sparano, on if he has to hammer in still believing to his rested and road tested :mj07: team after another bitter loss: ?I haven?t really had to hammer those things to this football team. This football team goes out, they enjoy practicing. I think they think there?s no mountain that?s big enough for them to climb and certainly they?re just going to keep going at it here. I?ve been really fortunate that these guys have been good pros, show up to work every day here trying to get better, take coaching well and go out there on the practice field and work them. Today was a fun practice out there. They had good energy today and bounced around really well. The thing I caution them on is making sure we understand that our efficiency is what has to get better. Our energy has never been questioned; our effort hasn?t really been questioned. But just our efficiency is what needs to get better. That?s something in all phases that we got to continue to work hard at. I love this team?s energy.? . . . The Chiefs run from 0-3 to 4-0 after two huge spots against division foes, and I have my guide for capping scenarios and probabilities for a live dog in this contest.

San Francisco(Un20')(+100) vs. Washington (1*)
- - There is value in this play as I have little doubt it would play out more than 5 out of 10 times in this spot, and the bell curve for blowing past this number also points to value.

ODDS and ENDS:
Thought it worth noting that traveling east this weekend involves an extra hour from turning back the clocks . . . Rex Ryan's teams have been poor plays off the bye in his two seasons, and road teams off the bye have not fared well this season . . . The Packers under Mike McCarthy have an excellent record SU and ATS with an extra week to prepare, while the calling card of San Diego has been their inconsistency, which is not a recipe for a signature performance off a short week, and with quite a few games offering "look ahead" spots this week, I have to say the biggest "look ahead" potential lies with San Diego and a Thursday game against Oakland . . . Colt McCoy goes back to Texas . . . I agree with Jack that Baltimore getting points does not look like a bad play in what shapes up IMO as the best game of the weekend.
