New Jersey at New York Islanders.....7:00 PM EST
--------------------------------------------------

The Play: 4 units New Jersey(Pk,+115)

Yup, we have the new coach theory playing heavily in this play tonight as the Devils will play their first game under new bench boss Kevin Constantine. As I have stated before, this "new coach" parameter is a very solid one in all sports, but only for the very first game. For whatever reason, the team seems to play at a higher level for the first game.

But that's not the only reason that I like this game. We have an extremely talented New Jersey team that simply has been underachieving, up against a slumping Islander squad.

The Islanders are just 4-5 in their last 9 overall and have actually lost 4 of their last 5 at home. New Jersey has done very well in this series going 4-2-2 in the last 8 overall vs NYI and a sparkling 5-2-1 in the last 8 when at the NYI.

New Jersey is averaging more shots on goal than NY.......30.5 to 29.4.

NJ is averaging fewer shots against.......23.8 to 28.2

NJ has a better PP....18.8 to 18.1

The Islanders do have better PK numbers YTD, but over the last 5 games the Devils have killed off 89.5% while NY has killed off only 76.9%.....a terrible number.

In the last 5 games, New Jersey also has the better PP at a solid 20.0% to 17.4% for NY. In fact the the Devils have scored at least one PP goal in 6 of their last 8 games.

I know this is the last of a 5 game "road-trip" for New Jersey, but they have been home in their own beds since playing at Minnesota in an early start game last Saturday, so I don't think that is a factor whatsoever.

I think we have a live one here tonight so it's a 4 unit special for me:

New Jersey(Pk,+115) for 4 units

Good luck out there tonight,
Tiger

Thanks for the well wishes SJ. I'm doing fine.......just don't have the time to stop by every day like I used to. But I try to pop in a couple of times a week just to "lurk" and the hockey forum is always where I start!

Good luck tonight!

Beautiful job. Shoulda pulled the trigger once I saw you on it but I passed. Listen to this man, folks. He is the sharpest hockey handicapper on this message board.

Nice job Tiger. Glad to see your posts once again. It's unfortunate that you cannot stop by this forum more often any more, like Nick was saying you are a sharp and disciplined handicapper.
