Yes, I know that the Tigers suck, but Colorado favoured on the road by this much really caught my eye and I dove into the stats on this matchup big time.
First off, Colorado has always been, and STILL is, a team built for Coors Field. They are a putrid 8-24 on the road this year.
When we look at the two starters tonight, the initial thought is WOW, I have to back Chacon for the Rockies.....but let's look a little closer.
Over his last three starts, he has an inflated ERA of 6.27, while the Detroit starter tonight, Cornejo, has sparkled with an ERA of 2.79 over his last 3 starts. In fact, he has given up more than 2 ER only twice in his last 9 starts. Hmmmm...........maybe the Tigers are worth a look.
When I looked at the bullpens, I found that Detroit is much, much better........
YTD, Detroit's bullpen ERA is 3.54.....Colorado's is 5.07.
Over the last 3 for each team, Detroit's bullpen ERA is 4.82....Colorado's is 6.59.
In fact, Detroit has had superb pitching over the last few days, despite their losing streak, giving up only 9 runs in 3 games.
Add in the fact that it is gloomy here right now (I live near Detroit) and the vaunted Rockie offence is going to have a lot of trouble putting runs on the board tonight.
With the Tigers being a medium sized dog, I love this play and have made is a 4 unit special.
