I am going to start posting a few sentances on each game for y'all on most days. I'll have plays posted a bit later. Good luck today.

5/29 Quick Notes:

-Wright comes off a great start coming off the DL for the Brewers while Perez has struggled in his last couple starts for the Dodgers. Be careful, though, because Perez could be coming back off a down cycle. Both teams are scoring runs better than a few weeks ago.

-Ohka has quietly been one of the hottest starters in baseball recently for Montreal. Chipper, Giles and Sheffield are all out for the Braves. Braves are arguably the hottest team in baseball right now.

-Marlins have scored 4+ runs in 5 of 6 and Hamilton makes his 2nd start coming off the DL after being roughed up in his first for the Reds. Beckett was throwing wicked stuff last time out.

-Fabulous pitching matchup in Pittsburgh with Wells going against the Cubs ace, Lieber. Both guys have been hot as heck. Cubs bats have cooled after their hot streak while Pittsburgh's have yet to warm up all year.

-Cards are on a 9 of 10 run while the Astros have lost 8 of 9. Miller and Stephenson were both roughed up in their last starts. Astros have scored over 4 runs in just 1 of their last 10.

-Miller comes off a bad start for the Jays but he has generally followed bad starts with good ones. Burkett was hit hard last time out and he should get hit again for the Red Sox.

-Orioles offense has completely evaporated (8 runs in their last 4) while Oakland is on a tear. Pitching matchup does favor the O's with Ponson going agaisnt Hiljus.

-Sparks has been hit hard his last few times out for Detroit. Detroit will probably not score many runs as they face Drese, who has been very effective. If you are a chalk layer, this could be a great spot for the Tribe.

-Phillies are playing much better overall baseball than the Mets right now but Estes has won his last three starts while the Phils have not won back to back on the road all year.

-Does anyone have a clue about Seattle? If so, let me know. They've played their last 7 games vs. doormats Baltimore and Tampa yet they only have 3 wins in those games. Garcia has dominated the Rays and Sturtze generally gets hit hard by Seattle so the M's would see to be a great play, but who can tell with that team?

-Buehrle gives the Sox a rare pitching edge over the Yanks when Clemens goes. Problem is, Yanks have won 4 straight, Sox have lost 3 straight and Buehrle was rocked last time he faced them.

-Reed is in top form, the Rangers lineup is in disarray, the Twins have won three straight, the Rangers have lost 5 straight and Texas starts Rob Bell, who was just called up. Need any more hints here?

-Anaheim's bats have come back to earth so be careful backing them for a while. That said, Ortiz comes off a couple of rough starts so I expect a return to form here. Affeldt will not give the Royals deep innings so that means their shoddy bullpen will get work. Royals' offense has averaged 7 runs per game their last 5.

-Tough call in the Arizona vs. San Francisco game. D-backs have lost the first two of this series but Schilling, who has been great but not spectacular lately, starts. Ortiz was roughed up last time out but it is tough to tell if that was the start of a down cycle or just the result of pitching in Colorado.

-Tollberg has not looked good in his last two starts for San Diego. Stark has been great for the Rockies but how long can a 27 year old career minor leaguer continue to boast a 1.50 ERA in the majors?

sounds like Cards get Drew back tonight.

"Right fielder J.D. Drew was not in the starting lineup Tuesday for a second successive game. Drew still experienced neck stiffness. He first felt the pain when getting out of bed Sunday. Used as a pinch-hitter Monday night, Drew said he anticipates being ready for today's series finale."

Cinn closer Graves threw 52 pitches, so he probably won't be availabale Wednesday. Gabe White becomes the top candidate to close should a save opportunity present itself.

Angels, may get Eckstein's bat back tonight??

"Eckstein update

David Eckstein could return to the lineup as the designated hitter today after starting the past six games on the bench because of a sprained left knee. He fielded ground balls at shortstop Tuesday but continued to have problems moving from side to side.

"I haven't proven that I can play in the field yet," says Eckstein, whose only appearance since the May 20 injury came Sunday as a pinch-runner.

Of Eckstein's return to the lineup, infield coach Alfredo Griffin says, "It's up to him. Sometimes players need to figure it out themselves."

Eckstein is known as a gritty player whose ambition is to play all 162 games in a season; he's anxious to return. But neither Eckstein nor team officials want to risk further injury by rushing back.

"It's a fine line," he said.

Houston's miller will be on pitch count tonight.

"Righthander Wade Miller, who has been on the disabled list since April 13 with a pinched nerve in his neck, is eager to come off the disabled list today and start against the Cardinals.

"I felt good my last start (Thursday in a rehab outing at Class AAA New Orleans)," Miller (0-2, 9.00 ERA) said. "I had a good bullpen, and I look forward to going out there tomorrow and pitching.

"I can throw all my pitches right now. I can do anything. Obviously, I'm not going to go out there and overexert myself, but I'm going to go out there and do the best I can. I'm not going to go out there and hold anything back."

Miller, the Astros' opening-day starter, hasn't pitched in the majors since April 12. He scattered five hits and two runs with five strikeouts while throwing 77 pitches in his final rehab outing Thursday. In all likelihood, he won't throw more than 95 pitches today.

"He got close to 80 (pitches) last (Thursday), so you can bump it up 15," manager Jimy Williams said. "You can go to 95, somewhere in there. A hundred or less somewhere in there, depending on how he gets there."

Miller's command steadily improved in each of his two rehab starts, but it remains to be seem how good his control will be today.

"I might be a little rusty," he said. "I was a little rusty my first start in rehab, but my second start was a lot better. I was hitting spots a lot better. I'm looking forward to hitting my spots again and not being too rough around the edges."

More importantly, perhaps, Miller said he feels much better than he did when he complained of neck spasms and right arm fatigue immediately after the 7-3 loss to the Cardinals on April 12.

"I feel 100 percent better," he said. "I feel good now. Back then I could barely move my neck, and my arm wasn't feeling that good. Right now my neck is pretty much 100 percent and my arm is pretty much 100 percent, and I feel good.
