One play for today and it is a bit chalky. Good luck.

PHILADELPHIA -155 over Baltimore 500/323

Person has looked extremely impressive and the Baltimore lineup is back to their floundering ways. only Julio has been consistent lately out of the Baltimore pen. Ponson faced a startling 33 batters last time out and only recorded 3 strikeouts with 2 walks, numbers which indicate a poor outing to come. Philly has a superb lineup and they have been hitting well lately. Tough to lay this much chalk but I see just about everything I can find indicating a Philly win tonight.

6/14 QUICK NOTES

-I am ambivalent towards Sturtze tonight. On the one hand he has looked extremely strong over his last two starts, but on the other his stats indicate overuse so he is a risk. Also, the Marlins have a history of interleague dominance, especially over the poor Devil Rays.

-I wrote two days ago that Toronto seemed to be starting a down slide and that San Francisco was looking up. I still feel that way and I would be leery of playing the Jays in the dog role at Montreal or the A's with Hudson as the dog against the Giants.

-I find that an interesting angle in the Minnesota vs. Milwaukee game could be the Twins wanting to pound Selig's Brewers for the contraction threat this winter. Only problem with playing the small chalk on Reed is that in their last two games Minny has been baffled by Glavine and Moss, two pitchers who pitch a somewhat similar style to Glendon Rusch.

-Trachsel has a 5.36 era at night and a 2.01 era during the day. Pettite certainly struggled before going on the disabled list but who knows if the Trachsel stat is a fluke or a serious indication of his mental state for day and night games.

-The battle of Texas boasts two good offenses and two pitchers who were rocked in their last outings. For some reason the over just seems like a sucker bet here, though.

-I find Cleveland vs. Colorado to be an odd line. Thomsen has been sketchy all year, though I guess he did look good in his last outing. Drese has been great most of the year and he comes off a very good win. Cleveland has won 3 of 5 while the Rockies have lost 8 of 10. Colorado's bullpen has been very inconsistent lately while Cleveland's was solid in their last series and then again yesterday. Only thing I can see is that Colorado has a fine home record while Cleveland has a .400 winning percentage on the road and that Colorado has been producing more hits overall lately. Still, for this to be a -165 line with two comparable teams and a very even pitching matchup seems odd to me.
