For anyone that cares. Horse had the lead in deep stretch and just got beat by a nose by 2 horses( 3-way photo). Almost won it at 25-1.

taipans,
handicapping horses to me is the hardest form of gambling there is. don't no why i've spent thousands of hours and read about 14 books on the subject, and still leave the track scratching my head 65.% of the time, but i do. was that horse a "tip" or a personel selection? because i would love to hear another cappers perspective on capping horses, especially a first class capper like yourself

thanks, taipans.

i agree with barkeep; i think this forum would be a good place to discuss ideas, etc. i find the horses fascinating, and very difficult.

been looking lately at the overlay/underlay situation (probably elementary for most of you). it has been difficult for me to understand that cashing a few big tickets is better than hitting every other race and winning nothing.

barkeep, have you ever read Sartin. is he worth the read?

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I know the owner of the horse and they have been high on him for quite some time. He has been a monster down at Freehold Raceway and they were not afraid to take on the big horses at the Meadowlands. They brought him over from New Zealand around September and have had nothing but success with him since then. He is in the final the Presidential series at the Big M this weekend and is only 6-1 on the morning line but this race is wide open and full of very good horses. I'am not sure if I am going back to the well this weekend but I will post any info on the race/horse if and when I get it.

I was at Aqueduct the day that GB beat SF a couple of weeks ago and heard an interesting viewpoint on the difference between sports gambling and horse racing. Iam sure everyone is aware that the events leading up to the final td by GB was very stressfull as far as anyone who had money on the game is aware. Will they take a knee, will they get the 1st down, will they kick a fg, or will they punch it in, the answers to these questions would have many people sweating bullets for reasons iam sure I don't have to explain here. A gentleman at the table next to me, after viewing people pull their hair out for what seemed an eternity and discuss countless outcomes to the game made a comment that made me think it long after the game had ended. He said, "i dont understand these people, sweating your ass off for over three hours, for what? even money? I don't get it." Sometimes I think no truer words were ever spoken.

i hear ya, taipans.

consider myself a student of racing (however short-bus oriented i might be). have taught myself many lessons at the track -- from earlier fantasies of thinking i would make the big hit and all my troubles would be over, to a now more sober, rational approach. but it's a great game in my opinion. like hitting 'fast departure' in the the 5th at gulfstream today. just a 2 dollar bet returning 23, but still that's pretty cool.

and i like your opinions about touts. i took a couple continuing educ classes in lex, but really what it taught me was different options in betting, like wheels, like a unit to win and two to place. maybe buying picks from touts is like buying picks in other sports, not a good idea, and takes you completely out of the game, like you were sending your money to a mutual fund or something.
