I don't like the Astros/Dodgers under. Statistics can be deceiving, and I'm not even sure what those are in this game, but I assume they point to the under. In this case, you've got a 9 for the number, which means you need 8 or under to win. You've got Ashby pitching, who hasn't been more than a workhorse since 1998 when he had a succesful year. And before then, it was every other year type thing. So really, I expect his numbers to regress towards his career average, particularly away from chavez ravine. Additionally, if you consider his near ERA is near 1 pt higher away from home, and at the same level for night games, the stats even support this regression, perhaps. His ERA is very low in August, but high since the AS break, so you can make the argument for regression or continuation..... but on the Astros' side, you've got a guy in Miller that has a higher ERA at home than on the road. I find his Day/Night ERA insignificant because it deviates from the norm and from logical standards. But between the two starters, you've got a chance to go over, plus you have a low total in a very much hitter's park. I think that Ashby is considerably over-rated, and Miller, for as good as he is, always has a good chance to be shelled. He doesn't overpower and not many people have thought much of him through his career. THere is a reason for that. Right or wrong, you've got to play the percentages, and those percentages are against him.

Instead of this game, which I could see going either way, I would rather look at the under in the SF/Ari game. Although at 7, you need a pitchers duel of some sort, I feel that you have the arms that could make something happen. Obvioulsy Johnson has a chance to dominate any game in which he toes the rubber. Jason Schmidt is equally (or near) dirty. He has a plus FB with a plus breaking ball. He has a chance to shut down the opposition in any start, and has been throwing well since his return from injury. Additionally, this should be a near playoff atmosphere which might lead to the batters being tighter and both teams playing for single runs versus the big inning. With a chance for either pitcher to shut out the opposition, and the opportunity for the opposing pitcher to shut down the opponent, I will take my chances on the under 7 here. Of course, that is just hypothetical.

Good luck!
